My Power Rails hits like a sledgehammer in my Mahog bodied/Maple neck/rosewood fingerboarded Warmoth guitar. I'm very interested in the VEH, but I'm opting for one of the Retrotron Series for the bridge in my Bari-Tele project.

I can vouch for the Mean 90s only, but this set is simply awesome sounding, specially comparing'em with a Gibson P-94 set in the same guitar (Squier JAG II), considering that only one Gibson p'up costed more than the whole GFS set including shipping to Italy!

I haven't tried any other GFS p'up myself, but I deal with'em in a regular basis acquiring guitar parts and all I can say is that Jay's a hell of a nice guy to deal with, had all my e-mails answered in 48 hs tops, prices are great and never ever even had a problem with shipping.

Highly recommended.

I had Power rails in my old Peavey HP special. The pup's are hot. The bridge can sound a little unfocused, but the neck was creamy goodness.

Tried the Vintage P90 set in my PRS SE Semi-hollow
The stock PRS P90's sounded better

Hmm, I thought that the Crunchy PAT was closer to the Duncan Custom than the Super Distortion.

I assume that the "came from GFS" is some sort of personal discussion
as the website did not mention these comparisons
the the site does say they they have the same resistance

and the JB is simply an overwound Patent-applied-for

I hear the Crunchy PAT as the Custom, and the Fat PAT as the Custom 5.

That info came for Jay. A while ago I emailed him about getting some pickups and informed that the Super D was one I was looking at. That when he told that about the Crunchy. The Crunchy uses ceramic magnets like the Super D and the Fat Pat uses Alnico magnets like the JB.
I have used the Crunchy bridge and a Fat Pat neck, this is close to the sound of the Super D and PAF Pro at half the price.

the INF series in my guitar now have an
alnico in the bridge -- 15.87K
a ceramic in the neck--12.28K
and single in the middle --5.87
the ceramic is nice i guess with the volume rolled back but with the volume up
it looses all its clarity
gets mushy

in case I didn't mention, it is HOT

EDIT:
also the RG4 has the LFR bridge
and is much heavier than the RG2
I guess I'll have to consider that in the equation too

I am a big proponent of GFS pups. In general i find the singlecoils and mini hums to pretty darn good and then buckers not so much. Never tried any p90s. I have a set of their premium alnico2s for strat in a guitar right now and they are great sounding pickups, no question.

I can´t stand any company who´s products are primarily low-cost and lowered quality versions of name brand products. GFS is definitely one of those companies. And those pickups I´ve heard and the 3 I´ve replaced for customers didn´t really knock my socks, off either....

All in all I´d rather get used Duncans off eBay or pay 20 bucks more and get the original brand new from www.wymoreguitars.com ;)

I have a Modern Vintage Lil Puncher Tele set with a 10k Lil Killer Strat pickup in the middle. They're very quiet and have great twang for Telecasters. I like them because the set I have gives me a nice beefy Tele tone.

I also have a Fat Alnico Mini-humbucker. It's nice but needs to used with 500k pots. It's just too melow with 250k. In fact, Jay w/GFS told me not to use them with 250k pots....

I think this is a bit unfair. There was nothing like the Retrotrons out there when GFS put them out and the Brighton Rock pickups (which I'd really like to try) are something a bit different too. Seems as though most of the pickups companies offering copies of Brian May trisonics are selling them as a custom shop option.

That's what I'm saying. GFS does pay homage to some name brand models, but they've also tried to experiment a bit too, and that lil quirky element attracts me to try new things.

The humbuckers are also good for experimenting with cheap hybrids. I've got a few that I'll be rebuilding one of these days.
