Some amps are pretty bright to begin with and so the presence control isn't always needed...On my old Marshall,I keep the presence control dialed back some..I notice some of the boutique amps and some newer amps like Blackheart,dont have it also.
As you know the presence control works within the output and feedback side of an amp.

If the normal EQ is good enough I don't see the need. I looked at a Blackstar amp recently with shedloads of tone shaping options many of which appeared to be competing with other controls. Looked impossible to dial in.

I prefer amps with as few knobs as possible. So the answer to your question is, no.
My favourite amp is my 5E3 Deluxe which has a knob for volume and another for tone.

Neither of my amps has them. I haven't missed them. They are of use on certain amps, sure.

No, I can find a sound I like out of any amp, even if there's no prescence. or any other control.

I never use it on my HRDv
I set it to ??? a year or two ago and haven't touched it since. Although, maybe I have - it's damn near impossible to read which knob is which on the white-on-mirror faceplates of those early Hot Rod Fenders :laughing:

I think this has the same answer as every other amp question: Depends on the amp. I specifically modded my amp to add a depth control, and I love having it there. It did wonderful things to the power section, and it was necessary. But there are amps that have that pre-dialed without a depth or presence knob to sound good. So the answer to this and every other amp question ever is: Depends on the amp.

I never used them until the tech modding my deville mentioned it and seemed a little shocked that I hadn't. I've now got it set about 25% on both my amps, but to be honest, I really don't hear much of a difference, even after trying different settings. And I'm kinda picky, so I can't see it being a make or break on tone, at least on the amps I have. Maybe it does make a difference on other amps.

i like having a switch to eliminate global negative feedback, once i flip that switch the presence knob doesnt function. so no, i dont need one or care to have one.

Me, a Presence knob (treb spike) on my amp . . . NO.
No i do not need it, i allready have a treb knob, with my mids and bass, thank you very much !
