Do you stretch your strings when installing a new set?

Re: Do you stretch your strings when installing a new set?

Yes, I belive it is a must, especially when it is a trem equipt guitar. Because if you don't streach the strings the guitar will be impossible to set up and keep in tune. And the key is to stretch until the string does not decrease in pitch. By doing this I can dive-domb with my strat.

....Well and don't forget to stretch them down towards the nut, if you just pull at them in one place, you will just make a kink.....
Anyways I rarely stretch them, just put them on, bend them a few times and play some chords.
And they sit.
On the Floyd I just pull the bar bar back one or two times, play a few chords and bend some notes, and lock after tuning up!

Here's a story: my teacher gave me a nice 'lesson' on stretching. He showed me that the 'proper' way was to gently pull each string a bit.

He spent the rest of the lesson alternating between teaching and retuning.

Yeah but doesn't your guitar always decrese in pitch after using the tremolo :wizard:? haha

What strings do you use?

Hmm sometimes is goes sharp while just standing, mostly because strings are made out of rubber these days :D
Anyways I use D'Addario balanced 10-46 on the Ibanez, they are more stable than the ordinary XL's....
Don't have to tune as often with those.

I tune em all slightly sharp. Then stretch each string in five zones:
By bridge saddles
Over middle pickup area
At base (last fret) of the neck
12th fret
3rd fret while holding string down at nut

And finally a little push down in each after the nut/headstock angle break. Retune and it stays that way.

I use the String Stretcha and LOVE it. Seemed gimmicky but it really works. Much faster and way more effective than doing it by hand.

Yeah but I don't think of it as stretching the actual string. I mostly think of it as tightening the wind on the tuner and evening out pull behind the saddles.

Before I was forced to stop playing in 96 I was a strict EB player also. I always stretched/tuned a couple times, before playing them. I would also "try" to let the strings settle at the very least overnight before making my final fine tuning adjustments, but if I am to be 100% honest the settle time wasn't always an overnight affair. I did try though!:lmao:
