Dodgy Maiden Cover

Someone did a cool maiden cover a little while ago. I really only like 2 or 3 of their songs & number of the beast is one of em'. So here's a dodgy maiden song. It's a first take & bit sloppy but it was heaps of fun.

I used my new total stock MIA strat. I'm not really a huge fan of single coils in the bridge but what the hey..... The trem stay's in tune pretty well.

I used a 5150 combo, arion analog delay in the efx loop.

Re: Dodgy Maiden Cover

tone wasnt bad. actualy i like it quite a lot, but for that tone to fly you have to REALY dig in you know. kinda hard to describe.
throw some octaves in there on the rythm, get some tightness on the rythm and a 2nd take on the rythm guitars mixed in with this in stereo and it'd be neato.

the solo.. i went cross eyed. sorry man, but i'll take it for what it is, a fun stab at it hehe. and it realy doesnt sound good or distinguishable without a rythm backing =/

but not bad for a first take, it doesnt sound rushed (like the stuff i do) and thats cool

Re: Dodgy Maiden Cover

Thanks for the comments guys.

Davey, I doubt I'll be asked to join a Maiden tribute show any time soon on the strength of this :D.

I know what you mean by 'digging in'. I probably need to focus more on the root notes of the chords with a heavier attack and maybe some more focused palm muting. I was standing up and really rocking out when I recorded this so I there's some klunkers in there!

If you turn it up, you can just hear the hi hat & snare from the backing track. I think my PC is memory challenged and I'm getting some pause's/skipping when I recorded it so mixing it down together with the backing track is causing some drama's.

With the solo's, I think I'll need your Charvel with it's schaller trem spitting fire & brimstone, lol. Yeah they pretty much sucked. For me, Single coils don't lend themselves to just staying in key to pull off a rapid fire lead like this. Kinda like playing pool with a piece of rope!!!

I think I'll leave the strat stock for some time. The tone isn't too bad with the stock pups and the 5150 sounded pretty cool. It's cool every now & again to do a recording to take stock of your tone.
