Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I'm thinking it may be my next pedal purchase... But I wouldn't like it to mess with my sound other than adding/substracting to the frequencies. Does it make noise...? If you see what I mean hehe...

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I'm assuming you're referring to the Boss GE-7. If so, yes, it adds noise. That's one of the reasons I don't keep it on my board; can't stand the hiss.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

Well, don't just take my word for it. Lots o' guys swear by them, David Gilmour included. Perhaps you've heard of him. :)

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

Yeah Pete Cornish probably modded the pedal until it was silent... And as much as he makes cool stuff, I can't afford him :laugh2:

I'll try one and maybe mod it. Upgrading caps should help I guess, and I don't plan on using extreme settings :) Thanks guys!

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

But his is going through a top of the line Cornish switchsystem board, with some extremely nice wiring and buffers.

Very true. I was just trying to make the point that lots of folks dig the GE-7.

Oh, to own a Cornish board...

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I have used a GE-7 as a boost/overdrive in front of a Marshall for 25 years, and I've never thought it made an objectionable amount of noise.

(Now, my BF-2, that's another story... )

I think the GE-7's noise is barely noticeable, but keep in mind I'm using it for a boost, and turn it off when the solo is over.

Fine Print:
This opinion is in no way influenced by the fact that, this very day, my beloved GE-7 which has served me well for many years but is nonetheless in very good condition, has gone up for sale. My new amp/playing style/venue require a true distortion box rather than just a booster. Any persons interested in purchasing said GE-7 should PM me.

Hehe I wish man but sorry I can't :( I have no access to paypal :( Thanks anyway :)

Alright thanks Joelap :) It'll either be that or BD2 but I think the EQ may be more useful. In front of the Plexitone for instance Muahahahahaha Thanks guys!

Hehehehey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! TL072... My favorite OPamp so far hehe...I may as well try to find 30 of the darn thing and upgrade any ODs that has a 4558 with it.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

There's many well documented mods on ways to completely eliminate the hiss in a gE-7. Lower noise op-amps for one. Then you can adjust cap values to tailor the frequencies to your liking as well.

Go for it.

Is the Sniper mod one such modification?

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

Can't find the Sniper mod online but well... I have others which should fit the bill. An EQ is an EQ after all. So if I get rid of the noise it should be all I need. Thanks guys!

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

TC Electronic pedals are very quiet. And they just reintroduced their classic series! Hopefully these reissues are as good as the originals because the originals are sought after and pricey! If you're thinking you need an EQ pedal, be sure to check out the TC Electronic classic Parametric EQ.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

TC pedals are not very effectful either...maybe noisefree and all that...but they never sounded very nice....had one or two of those old ones;)
And they where made right here in the very town I live in now...

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

just adding i love the GE7 except the noise as well... i bought it and never use it... but it adds the low end i like to my Classic 30 amp but the noise sucks...

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I like my (2) GE-7's. I find they add an openness, a bit like Lynch. As far as noise, they add a little. All GE-7, and all Boss pedals for that matter, are not created equal.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I use a GE7 in my rig, it does add a bit of noise, but I only use it sparingly, so it doesn't bother me.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

You could try the MI Audio Boost n Buff pedal. It's not an EQ pedal as such, but it has a number of functions like flat EQ booster, signal buffer and treble booster.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

I actually really wouldn't mind this pedal. It's a great concept! Put it first in your sigal chain and it's a buffered boost or buffered treble booster. Genius. No UK distributor though, customs would make it too expensive.

Re: Does a Boss EQ7 add noise?

Does it help the noise if you only use it for cutting frequencies, not boosting? Also, I've heard good things about the Dano Fish & Chips EQ.
