Does a Marshall head paired w/ a 1x12 make any sense?

Re: Does a Marshall head paired w/ a 1x12 make any sense?

Blake, I just ordered an OR15 with black tolex. From my understanding (which could be wrong) the OR15 is more 70's style and the Jim Root is darker, more of a metal tone.

BTW, OR15 with black tolex is special order through Orange (I went through Guitar Center, it was $699 + $20 shipping)

I have been G.A.S ing for a DSL 15 head. Would run it through a convertible 1x12 cab with an Eminence C-Rex.

I play an Orange AD50 into a Randall 1x12 with a Celestion V30 Anniversary and it's awesome. I can run it bedroom levels to practice and then take it to gigs, dime the master keeping the same tone. I've also used an Emery SuperBaby into that same Randall 1x12. Any similar configuration would work just fine as long as the speaker is rated equal to or higher than what the amp is putting into it. I've also run a Marshall 45 and 100 into it but with a Weber MASS between the amp and speaker.

If you like the marshall sound & your cab has the watts rating to handle it then I'd go for it. Marshall's are ridiculously loud though & you'll need a big room & laid back neighbours to get that crunchy power amp sound from the amp alone
After a while get yourself a 2x12 cab not only to put the marshall through but your smaller amps too, a small amp through a bigger cab sounds fantastic

Thanks everyone!

I am in the middle of restoring a Marshall 412 I got on the cheap instead

Will very likely get an orange OR 15.

Of course it does. It's just an amplifier, it's not like it's born with an 8x10 attached to it.
