Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

I think the overwhelming consensus is that it doesn't really matter

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

not only does it not need to be f spaced, they dont even make f spaced neck pickups. the string spacing it narrower over the neck pickup then it is for the bridge pickup. if you put a f spaced/trembucker bridge humbucker in the neck slot, it probably would be way off alignment

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

Lots of people don't think it matters at the bridge either.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

I have several Dimarzios that are F-spaced neck pickups. Evolution neck F-spaced and for guitars with wider nuts like 1 11/16" or wider, F-Spaced neck pickups are a reality too as well as the obvious F-spaced bridge pickups which more and more I find most of my non trem guitars also need F-spaced pickups.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

No. But the spacing on a Gibson type bridge p'up lines up perfectly on a Fender type neck position.

Wow, somebody better tell that TB-2N I have in my Kramer, then...:approve:

Though I've heard the only time you'd need them is if you use super-wide 1 3/4" nut-width necks like I do.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

hmm really didn't think anyone made them! theres no need for them and i've never seen them. unless like you said for super wide necks

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

If you are using a guitar with floyd rose, yes. If not, no!!

But on bridge is better use f-spaced in fender bridge like.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

Strings get closer together the further away from the bridge you go. F-spacing NOT required in neck position, and probably would misalign with the strings pretty badly, which is more of a factor on neck pu's (because of bass response) than bridge.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

Depends on the neck. If you have spare pickups lying around, match up the strings to a standard spaced one and an F/TB-Spaced one at the neck position. Usually you don't need one, but there can be an occasional guitar where they line up better.

Re: Does a neck pickup need to be f-spaced too?

I measured the strings on my RG2
with the Jazz in the neck

the jazz pole pieces are standard spaced at about 49 mm
the dimarzio F-spaced neck pickups are 51 mm

my strings on my 24 fret RG2 are 50 mm

either or

if you have a 21 or 22 fret with close neck then probably the standard would work better

it doesnt affect the sound one way or another

it just looks better if they line up

get covers without holes and dont worry bout it

rail pickups would eliminate the debate
as would Carvin pickups with the 11 pole pieces per coil

some fender single coils are f-spaced
some are not

I have both

what I'm trying to say is

no
