I am an Iommian disciple, but I was wondering if AY uses his Gibson Signature pickup. Does he really need to? He seemed to do just fine with what he had.
Re: Does Angus use the Gibson Angus Young Signature pickup?
Well, the Angus Young signature Gibson pickup is based off the bridge Gibson pickups he had modded by a local guitar tech. He didn't use just plain stock bridge pickups, he did the same thing Iommi did, soup up his pickups, and Gibson recreated the pup.
Re: Does Angus use the Gibson Angus Young Signature pickup?
Hmm not that i know of. ITs more like giboson carbon copies his 'basic' guitar set up. I mean, think about it, what guitar play do you know doesnt fiddle with something??
Re: Does Angus use the Gibson Angus Young Signature pickup?
Angus uses his stock humbuckers in his SG's that he records with- a 68 and a early 70's- 71 I think. The key to getting his tone is his adjustments of his bridge pickup. He has put a few other humbuckers in a few newer SG's- BBQ humbucker for example. His 3 main SG's- 68, early 70's- likely 71, and 64 custom are original PAF's/T-Tops. The 68 and 71 are used for just about all of his recordings which use T-top humbuckers.
The best SD pickup for his tone is the 59. It will give you that 60's A5 Gibson pickup tone. Just adjust your bridge pickup until you get his tone.
Amps- He generally used 3 over the years- 50 watt superlead, JTM-45, and a 100 watt Superlead for cord work. Malcolm uses in the studio since day 1- late 66 JTM100- 2 of them and late 60's/early 70's Superbass. The 400 watt Wizard Bass amp is for stadium work only.
Speakers: Greenbacks or the H30 watters will give their studio tone. GB's are best but the H30's will work as well. Weber Silver Bells or Scumback 25 watters would be fine. The Hellatone 30's- broken-in H30's will work too.
