Hello,
I have seen the L.Paul he used, but I have seen him using twin reverb, vibrolux, Princeton reverb, I understand he could play any amp, and still sound like himself. But for some of us, or maybe just me, that is a great sound, beautiful, and he went (no pedals) right to amp. It is fun to get close to the sounds that made you pick up guitar.
Clapton/Mayall....Bloomfield/S.Session-my top two favorite guitar sounds
What did he use on super session? I had an original blackface Princeton, but lost that in my divorce.
Curious I am.
SJB PS..This has been SERIOUSLY edited, It was late at night and I sounded drunk. Been sober going on 6 years, so I'll be more careful at 2 in the morning

Here is the tone. Hello Folks, just couldn’t resist adding a couple of links.

Had to find another early album. Got it from Guitar Player Magazine. Sent in my 99 cents and received this album months later in the mail. Give it a listen. The first song sets the atmosphere.

The "B" word.
Gearjonser, Condemned soul - Great clips. Thank you so much. There are so many sidebar clips from the ones you put up I am just going to bookmark this whole page! I also had that original "Play These Blues....." but it went missing long long ago.
Also GearJ.-Great article on M.Bloomfield! Thank you. Please read my post again as I was too tired, obviously, and bad grammar + repeating half sentences-it just looked awful. So I re-did my post.
jeremy- I have a '66 L.Paul Custom, same mahogany and maple construction, plus a for real '65 or '66 "Black"Face Bassman that sounds huge, as Trump would say. It is too loud for stage these days, needs some loving care from a good amp specialist, but man, that thing kicks a***!! So, a Twin reverb. I don't know if they still make 'em, but I'll check for fun. IIRC, they were 100 watts I think. Didn't Roy Buchanan use one? Anyway, thanks a lot for that, Great stuff folks.

you dont want a twin reverb, it will be WAAAY louder than your bf bassman and the new ones dont sound like the old ones anyway. also the bassman doesnt have reverb which is a huge part of his sound. if you are playing at home a deluxe reverb or princeton reverb is a much better bet for getting close. i use a bf deluxe reverb on stage all the time.

you say a '66 lpc... they didnt make those. they did make three pup sg's in 66 but the single cut didnt come back till '68

Re: Does anybody know what amp Bloomfied due on Super Session?

Jeremy-
Yeah, the guy sold it to me in 1970, said it was a '66, and it was so beat up and worn, the paint was coming off whole sale. So whatever year it was it was before 1970 for sure, but the shop guy (in San Francisco) where I had frets put on, as they looked painted on, the guy said it was a "Black Beauty Fretless Wonder". It had 2 gold covered and rotted out pup covers, T-Tops, gold worn tuners, and the binding was quite yellow.
So you must be right about it being a '68. What about those Fretless wonder frets, does that fit in that category? They were so flat you could almost not feel them. Try an A. King bend on one of those!
I use a blues jr. 3 for home, w/reverb, on my board I have a TC Electronic verb pedal on church or hall settings, I just gotta have some reverb. For stage I like my 40 watt 1X12 Blues a Deluxe, if I got the name right. The 1 below Blues Deville, a 60 watt amp I think.
I have enough gear that the only things I buy are strings, etc. But I will say as I go into my mid 60's, I might have enough to buy a used Princeton BF Reverb. Really my favorite of all time. But I don't NEED it, so I save money for the damn dentist!
Thanks,
SJB

Trying to throw me off the scent so you can buy up all the Deluxe Reverbs and BF Princeton's in the world. Hey, when you've spent your family's fortune, save me one.
Oh well, I knew there was no chance, lame request, not even funny. I blame myself.
As Whimpy used to say to PopEye - I'll gladly pay you Tuesday for a bf Deluxe reverb & bf Princeton reverb today!. I forgot to mention my Super Champ X2 next to my head at bedtime, best way I have found, from what I could try out, is quite Princeton like clean on voicing #5 (Princeton clean) with the volume set at 1.5. Ok delay & chorus to boot!
Great for the money.

you can save some money by getting a silverface princeton and having it blackfaced. the little black fender reverb amps are fetching silly prices these days
