Does anybody know WTB Duncan Blackout pickups?

Re: Does anybody know WTB Duncan Blackout pickups?

I think they are only at the thinking stage for that right now. I dont understand why they dont just go for it, but we will see. If they do, I WILL order a set!

I thought the thread here "I've Experienced a Blackout" and a thread on SevenString.org mentioned the 7string normal housings and there was a picture of it. Am I losing my mind?

Re: Does anybody know WTB Duncan Blackout pickups?

I read somewhere here that the blackouts have to much output for a pod. So I was wondering is that the case with Hd 147 and the vetta or is just the pods? I'm looking to buy actives and was looking at the classic EMG 81 85 set up when my local dealer pointed me in the direction of the Blackouts. Any info is helpful. Thanx.
I'm using the JB/59 as it is but I like the Zakk sound from no more tears and miracle man albums.

The Blackouts are not too hot for a POD, the POD compatibility issue came up when powering them with 18 volts. EMG's "18-volt mod" (using two 9v batteries) came about as a way to get some more dynamics out of the EMG circuit. The balanced inputs of the Blackouts do not need (nor do I feel they benefit from) 18 volts. You won't hurt them with 18 volts, but that's when they became a little "over the top" for the POD. No worries with 9 volts and the POD, just set the height to your preference and rock on. The only caveat is that since these pickups have a far greater dynamic range, it is feasible that if you pick really hard you could digitally clip the POD. But if that's how you're picking when playing clean, you'd probably do that with a high output ceramic passive as well.

Thanx. I have an emg equipped eclipse at home to test drive the pups. I don't like their lack of character and frying pan gain. Is this what is to be expected of the blackouts or are they more like duncans on steroids? Which is really what I'm after more beef and more bite. The emg's have the bite but not the beef. They are 81 bridge and 60 neck who is pretty nice though.

I havent seen it.. last thing i heard about the 7s was from Evan saying it would cost too much or whatever, and that it makes "sense" to use the bass housing which is totally irrational, no offense. Next thing i see is that they are in fact going to be released in the standard 7 string housing in august? PLEASE post the links to where this was said. Im a member at sevenstring.org, but there are alot of pages to look through there and the forums are too slow for my patience hehe.

Re: Does anybody know WTB Duncan Blackout pickups?

No, it's not that they have too much output for a POD. If one has a PODpro or the PODxt rackmount units and uses them as their preamp like I do, the "Line Level" input should be used to increase the headroom on clean settings. Otherwise, using the "Guitar level" input might make one's clean settings distort like it happened to me. Using the "Line level" input on my PODpro and NOT running the Blackouts at 18volts eliminated my clean channel's distorting problems.

Pictures speak louder than words:

Not sure if it was leaked when it was taken but I found this on the sevenstring.org site as well as posted here as well in the "open letter to Seymour Duncan about the Blackout 7" thread.

Frank Falbo commented on sevenstring.orgs site about the cover on the prototype being a tight fit, but hopefully that won't stop them from going into production.

:smack: well then! Theres the answer.. looks like they definately got on the job.. the did exactly what they said and got on with it! I actually prefer the look of the square corners, but I understand the reasoning. Theres no way i will pass up these.. if I like them enough i may put them in my Jackson too, and thats saying alot.
