I have 2 Carvins. One has C22's and other S22. The electronics don't look cheap. I can see that the pots are indeed very close to the edges of the cavity so I hope it does not cause problems to upgrade my pickups. I think it would be a far stretch to say that they don't put the same quality in electronics as they do in everything down to the pickup cavity.
The stock pickups are very good. They sound a little plain but you cannot really complain because they make their pickups for a variety of music. Mine are bright but not a sweet kind of bright like Fender pickup. They do not have sweet midrange like Dimarzio or SD. Just kind of plain.
I heard they will install pickups if you send to them. I wish I thought of that before. I'll have to ask them when I order 2 more Carvins
