Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

Darkness on the edge of Tone
This overdrive just came across my radar. Does anyone here own one? Is it still current? Is there someplace I can hear high quality clips of it?

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

I thought you had a fuzz pedal from him for some reason. :)

Okay, since you have one, I assume you rate it. You know where I can find a decent clip or two?

Or is this a buy-first-ask-questions-later pedal?

I have a few BMF pedals...Scott did my white Fuzz Face and I also have a BMF Ge Spot fuzz (which is Scotts take on a MK I Tone Bender) and his Purple Nurple OD...all good stuff!

I got you a link to clips above, dig on 'em.

I don't really believe in buy first ask questions later but the BMF stuff is rally great and based on the pedal and what I know about your style and tone I think you might really dig it!

The Nurple is pretty amazing in that it can get some rather low gain sounds down to Keef and even less and can go all the way to full tilt FUZZ is you really crank it but it's a lot easier to use than most any fuzz box I know of...

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

It would prolly be worth buying just cuz the name is so cool.. haha

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

Okay, listened to all the clips. Too bad they're mp3 and on Soundclick, but I get the jist.

The clips of the PN have mad amounts of LF information. I wish there was a bypass/effected clip to compare.

But, since you own one, CF -- how do you find the low freqs on this pedal?

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR is something to sit between the Tommy Bolin fuzz and the BB Preamp in terms of overall gain, but not sound as transistory as the Green Rhino (the GR is not going to survive on my board much longer).

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

The PN does have some big lows.

As for the gain range, it'll get a pretty low gain sound with the gain below 9 oclock and when at zero it gets a grunty sort of small combo amp run up sort of vibe and from 9 o'clock until the lock it'll go all the way from a healthy crunch to a fat nasty almost fuzz sound...more fuzzy sounding than my Astro Tone in ways...

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

Interesting...

The PN has a tone of it's own but I haven't paid that much attention to what it does to the mids to be honest.

It has a sound, a sound that I like so I stopped thinking about it there to be honest...

Gah! lol

I need for you to put on your engineer's cap and give me a critical analysis! :)

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

I know that the midrange punch and sort of spike my tone has on it's own is kept with the PN on...does that help??
Yes, that helps a lot, thanks. Mids are super-critical for me, which is why I don't really care for the Green Rhino. For a specific type of affect, the GR serves its purpose, but it's far from my go-to drive pedal at this point. I'm thinking of getting a Pedaltrain Nano just to have my "B" pedals, the ones I think have great flavour but don't carry enough weight to be on my small main board, together in one place: the Hip Kitty Oxblood, the BOSS Rotary Ensemble, the Green Rhino, and one other pedal if there's room ...

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

Well, the PN is a far cry from a TS style pedal so that mid hump thing is a non issue...the rounded off top end is also a non issue and it doesn't have that sound I hear in almost ALL IC based OD pedals...

Here is a clip with the PN off then on...not your style at all but a good clip.

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

One more...pedal(s) off is a short bit here and there but you can get an idea...

Re: Does anyone here have a BMF PURPLE NURPLE?

2nd one is most educational. I think I prefer the stock version.

Thanks!
