Does anyone know about the 1989 USA Squires?

My dad has an 89' Squire made in the USA. The guitar feels great and has an outstanding tone to it. I noticed that the tuners have "Fender " on the back of each of them, but they don't feel like real high quality tuners to me. I looked at the electronics and I found that the pots and switch look cheap and the single coils have a staggered design to them and they sound awesome. Are these guitars basically made of some American parts? It sounds too good to have cheap pickups and feels more like an American Strat than a MIM strat or Korean Squire.

Does anyone know about these guitars?

At that time Fender had a plant in the US that made Fender USA and a Plant in Japan that made Fender Japan as well as Squire the Fender Japan plant had a fire and ws out of commision for a few months...during that time ALL FEnder guitars were made in the US...even the Squires.

I never knew There was USA Squires.... very cool to know! I enjoy my MIM 1994 Squire strat that i upgraded the hardware on... they only made Squires for less then 2 years in Mexico i think... But i had never heard of uSA before! neat!

They only made them for a few months (I have heard between 3 anbd 6 months but Im not sure about that number...however I know it was for less than a full year) I have played them and to be hoenst they are no better or worse that the MIJ Squires of that smae time...the MIJ Squires are killer guitars and the MIA Squires are too but due to them being rare they usally sell for more that the MIJ versions.

So is it generally regarded that the USA Squiers are better build quality than Mexican and Korean Squiers and about the same as that of Japan models?
