New Guitar Day! (not the Warmoth I am still building)

That would be cool. Kinda crazy that Sterling doesn't know what they put in their own guitars, LOL!

I wonder if the pickups are still being made by Cort in Indonesia. Most of the stock Sterling pickups over the past few years have been, at least on their midrange models.

Can you measure DCR at the jack?

I got another email today that said they will try to find more information. My guess is that those are the Cort pickups.

They got back to me today. This is what they sent:

Neck: 7.59 KΩ
Bridge: 7.64 KΩ

That goes with what I thought. EQ-wise, they sound pretty scooped, with an emphasis on the high end. I am hearing something like (BMT): 5 3 8

Interesting! So, essentially a PAF-ish type in both positions.

If you DO decide to change them, you should at least give the Transitions some consideration. This is really the perfect guitar for them!

magnet? i prefer something along the lines of 4 6 7 for neck, and 5 6 5 for the bridge, i think.

They didn't reveal the magnet. It isn't A2, or else the EQ wouldn't be what it is. My guess is either A5 or ceramic. Both pickups seem pretty bright. I also asked for a wiring diagram, so I am hoping they come through with that. It uses a 5 way, and positions 2 & 4 are inside & outside coils. But I checked the polarity of the pickups and they are both the same, which doesn't seem right to get those combinations and still be in phase and hum-cancelling. It does use a super switch, but the wires are bundled together with small zip ties, so it is very difficult to trace them out without taking the zip ties apart.
I might change the pickups to an Alnico II Pro/Custom Custom set (I have a Custom 5 here I can swap the magnet out on), so I'd need to get the neck pickup- that is, if I can't deal with the brightness. I could also use a Jazz and swap the magnet out. Actually, a Jazz usually has a logo and I'd like it to match, so that might be easier to find.
