I ask because Im trying to perfect this tone using the pod xt and would like to get as close as possible to this tone. I currently use the blackface setting based on a fender blackface delux.

Re: Does anyone know what amp SRV used to record lenny?

His live rig at that time was two blackface fender vibroverbs with 15inch speakers and a Marshall 'club and country' combo, which apparently was their version of a twin. I'm not sure if he recorded with that rig, but his live tone on the El Mocambo DVD is very similar to the record.

The key difference to SRV's sound on Lenny was his use of a maple-board strat.

Having said all that, the closest I've come to getting that tone was plugging a custom shop '64 strat (rw board) into a 65 twin reissue, so you may want to check out your pod's twin settings.

His Lenny guitar, not only had themaple neck, it had this huge swimming pool route under the guard. It had a very "hollow" tone to it.

Just put that pod on the blackface fender settting and have a go at it.

Was Lenny on the Texas Flood album? If so, it's my understanding that SRV loved Jackson Brownes Dumble Amp so much that he wound up using it for almost everything on that album. Lew

That was "Lenny", the Vanilla Fudge Strat that the guy from Vanilla Fudge had 3 or 4 humbuckers in! Scott's right about it having a huge homemade swimming pool rout under the pickguard. SRV's wife, Lenny, bought it for him. Lew

And then Guitar Center bought it (along with Clapton's Blackie and Cherry ES335) at the last auction Clapton had to fund Crossroads. They say they're gonna make those guitars museum peices.

As for finding a good "Lenny" sound I prefer a Super Reverb. It's real good at getting that beefy "clang" sound from the neck pickup. :32: I also love how in the El Mocambo version of Lenny you can hear the strings grinding at the frets... XD !!! My rectoverb produces a similar sizzle like that with the presence and treble controls both up.

I just purchased the add ons for the pod xt and the fender blackface vibroverb model they have gives the closest lenny tone I have ever got, its real close.

No clue... I did play a '66 Deluxe Reverb with the ORIGINAL General Electric tubes in it and a JBL speaker loaded in there and that was pretty darn close.

I have no idea what it was... it was a 12 incher. Thats all I know.

Well I was gonna re-record this properly, with a click track this time but as you will see the click was delayed causing a big pause at the begining while I wait for it, but anyway this is purely for the tone. I can tweak it closer than this this is only 10 minutes of messing with it. I think that new fender vibroverb model is excellent.

have a listen
