Does anyone know what cable covering this is?

I'm thinking about building a few guitar cables. I'd like to add some sheathing over it, but I'm looking for something other than the standard TechFlex. I've got these two patch cables from guitar center from a long time ago, and they are still offered at a cheap price so the covering can't be too expensive. Any ideas? Almost reminds me of the Paracord everyone is using now.

Yes the black braided covering.

These are el cheapo cables and connectors, but the braided sleeve would be cool to add over a nice Mogami Switchcraft/Amphenol cable.

I have a few guitar cables like that, but I never tried buying it in bulk. I'd be interested to know what it is called, too, as that cable has held up pretty well for me.

they make a fiberglass sleeve that resembles that
we use it at work in high temp enviroments

you could get some yarn and knit something

It's braided sleeve, but the stuff like shown by OP looks more like the fabricy Dimarzio sleeve, wheras the Monster cable sleeve looks a lot like it, but is more plasticy and from my experience unravels faster.

You can also get it from auto places like Summit Racing in a variety of diameters. The generic term is "expandable braided sleeving."
I never thought of us in it on patch cords - good idea! Next time I see it at a swap meet I'll have to buy a few feet.
I can't swear to it, but I think you can heat it with a hair dryer and then let it cool in position and it will hold that shape.

Hi Dave, thanks for the link. I don't believe it's the same material. The first items in the link look like TechFlex (which is a good and popular choice) but as Jer mentioned these cables are more "fabric like" than the PET. I'm also familiar with the second set of products, I've specified them in a production environment before.

It may be Nomex which is more fabric like. Cable Organizer probably has it.

Edit ... they do, but only in green. So, probably not Nomex.

That cloth covering isn't actually a sleeve you can add on later, it's woven right onto the cable. Spectraflex has lots of videos of the machine weaving various patterns on their instragram feed...

I looked for it too a while back and then learned it was woven right on. Then I just bought a long spectraflex and cut it down to make various custom length cables from it.

The Fender Custom Shop cables are probably sourced through Spectraflex as well I bet.

I personally hate the PET sleeving. I'll have to check out some of the Techflex Multifilament for myself to see what it's like. It's not expensive. Looks like you have to be careful with sizing though. It doesn't expand as much as the PET stuff.
