Does anyone know what pickup this is?

The owner claims it's a Seymour, but it dont look like one to me. It's obviously some kind of P90 mag configuration in a single coil format, those screws look Dimarzio to me, but I may be wrong. Thanx in advance!

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

I'd go for DiMarzio SDS-1 with non-standard polepiece screws. (Yours look unusually domed and the wrong colour. Could be replacements. Could be abused originals.)

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

I can tell you what it's not.... A Seymour duncan

Agreed! It sure dont look Seymour to me! But the dude who sells it swears it is, I told him it looks more like a Dimarzio. I was going to open it, take the cover off, but it has been glued with crazy glue. Not a good idea.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

That glue is another sure indication of DiMarzio.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

Yes! Thank you!

I agree with the above comments. I have one almost exactly like this one. I know for sure it is a DiMarzio, I bought mine in 1978 - 1979 time frame.
Mine has no label at all and was cream to begin with and has changed color too but not yellow like this one.
I believe it is a SDS1 DP-111 but I am not sure. I have a post on the DiMarzio forum asking the same question. The magnet on mine is so deep I had to router out my Strat bridge position for the depth.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

I swapped one out for a Super-D way back that looked like that in a Strat , probably late 70's or early 80's as well (both Dm) . If I remember correctly it sounded good .

Funk-f - I believe the Allens were pretty standard back then , on some. I still have a few of them in the cupboard ( in HB's
trying to remember if Japanese MMK's had them as well like on Arias or Westones, etc. (the Allen screws)

It's a DiMarzio SDS-1 (Super Distortion single coil). It's basically a moderately hot P-90 for a Strat rout. IME, they work great in any position on a Strat; I have one in the bridge position of my Black Paisley at the moment. Yours looks to me like an old one, as it says P.A.F. on it.

A friend of mine has an old Aria strat copy. It has single coils with brass hex screws and two bar magnets along side in the neck and middle positions (the bridge is a Fast 2).

I dont remember who used the Brass Allens , it's a weird config but I remember them too + sounded cool as well ( MMk used to stamp underneath on the HB's/ bottom plate dont remember about the Single coils ?

Does Anyone know if I can Crack a Sealed Charvel ( Never tried / Want to get rid of the Black cover) apart and Sh-can the stock Black cover ?. I have a need to put 2 singles wired custom in 1 position . My Best friend Died who gave Me this Charvel, so I want to honor Him and use it a build or 2 out.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

Depends on teh specific charvel pickup. J-200s (which should have a Jackson logo, anyway) are encased in epoxy, no go on those.

Many of the later charvel pickups have removable covers that just look like they´re sealed, but it´s probably better to err on the side of caution and just purchase a set of holeless black single coil covers for 5 $ from Allparts or another supplier of your choice.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

" are encased in epoxy, no go on those " <-- But I mean Surgically Remove (even if a 3-4hr. job) ~ Start at Top cap, gauging the Depth of Cut maybe ? Anyone have pics of Interior Coil area ?

It is Charvel , I'll show old pic (Didn't dig it out of cupboard yet)

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

Looks like a J200 to me, regardless of the logo on it. Same basic format - epoxy-sealed stacked singles. Surgery would be delicate and have minimal chance of success IMO. The thickness of the top should be comparable to the thickness of the feet, as with all pickup covers, but my concern is what the cutting action will do to the outer wraps of the coil wires if they are in the epoxy.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

Ok Newcenstein , how big are the Coils - is there Alot of wraps ? I forget what I read this pickup at but I remember it sounds big.

I would be Very cautious when plotting All cuts (may conservatively try some Heat as well ) may take 6 hrs.

But lastly if I do it (but I will weigh the Sitch) I feel like I will deserve some kind of Prize .
Maybe the prize is having one that U can change the cover's Color on.

Re: Does anyone know what pickup this is?

^nice.. side note, 2 things tell me its almost certainly NOT a J-200:

1. The output wires are flat up wrong. All the J-200s I´ve seen in the last 25 years, J or C logoed, have had hookup wire that looked like classic HB wire but smaller and with plastic insulation over the braid. Now, I MAY have simply not seen this wire on a production pickup yet... but with some if the things I´ve seen (and didn´t necessarily want to), I don´t personally think the chance of that is exceedingly high.

2. More importantly, a J-200 is most certainly NOT "big" sounding.... it is very low output, to the point that it only really works properly with a JE-1xxx series preamp (which is what was always stock in the guitar if these were installed at the factory).. and the tone is not exceedingly warm or fat in any way. I use it at the neck in combination with a J-50c (PAF wind humbucker with ceramic magnet) at the bridge specifically when I want my clean tone to be cold almost to the point of feeling like a vacuum... :eek13:
