Does anyone Know?

Re: Does anyone Know?

Are you looking for S.R.V. tone? If you are on a budget get SSL-1's, if you have a little more cash Antiquity Surfers would be good. I've used Texas Specials very ice pick in the forehead tone with strange midrange....just my $.02 ......I'm sure more folks will chime in.

Re: Does anyone Know?

that's correct ..

I have a TS strat.

although I wouldn't refer to them as "TS clones", the following sets all do the same thing, but better:

SSL-1s (now sold as a 'California 50s' set)

Antiquity Texas Hots with Custom bridge set -

Antiquity II 'Surfer' set with Custom bridge

these will all get the tone you're after, but overdrive smoother than the TSs. The Antiquity set is alnico 2, so a little warmer and fatter and more compressed; the Antiquity IIs are alnico 5, so brighter and glassier - more like the original 50s Fender pickups.

both Antiquity sets are around 6.4K with a hotter bridge - 9.7k. The "California 50s" SSL-1 set is calibrated - 6.4K in the bridge, and graduated down a little in the mid and neck spots

Re: Does anyone Know?

What i want to do is go sing sing hum. at the neck and mid i want that SRV sound and at the bridge i want EVH lead sound. what would be the best combo? im not worried about saving money but i have a set of wolfie pups and a Duncan Designed JB i could use. but if there is something better, let me know.

Re: Does anyone Know?

well, if you want thee best possible combo for what you want.....its gonna cost more, but theres standard production pickups that could do almost the same job

for the best for those sounds, you'd want

custom shop EVH bridge...... Antiquity Surfers middle and neck for a brighter SRV sound...... or Aniquity Texas Hots for warmer and smoother SRV sound..... choosing the Surfers or TH's just depends on your setup and guitars characteristics

now, that would be more expensive, but that would be the best possible pickups for great toneful replications of those sounds

but, you could go with the standard duncan line, and go with

59 bridge - SSL1 middle and neck........ or again, APS1 if you want a little warmer and smoother sound

also, if you want the hotter EVH tone, you could go with the Custom Custom humbucker, but the 59 can do the EVH sound great, and would match better outputwise with vintage single coils

idk if youve heard the clips from forum member VHoholic, but he can make the 59 bridge sound dead on the old EVH tone......check out his clips in his profile here https://forum.seymourduncan.com/member.php?u=129

Re: Does anyone Know?

What if i go with a EMG81 and 2 Single S EMGs. (Just because i love the way they look.)

Re: Does anyone Know?

i dont know anything about the EMGs other than ive never liked their sound on the few ive played, but i dont really know......but i have a feeling they are not what your after

Re: Does anyone Know?

if you got an emg 60 and maybe some SAs for the neck and middle youd have the same look but a little closer to evh/srv tone. in general those guys used kinda vintagey sounding pups and emg's arent all that vintagey. they do their thing well, but this aint there thing
