Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

nuntius

Boogeyman of Tone
Well yesterday i got a set of 13-58's and tuned one of my acoustics in D.

It sounds much better imo. I had it tuned in C for a bit, the tension was too floppy for me but it sounded beautifully deep.. got me gassin for a baritone acoustic! :smack:

Thing is, i've never seen one or played one, the only way I could think of getting one would be a custom order...

I can't afford to buy one any time soon, but I do want to try one out to see if I'd like one or not :)

thanks

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

I think Joe Veillette used to make one over at Veillette Guitars http://www.veilletteguitars.com/

*edit* And yes, he still does. I´ve played his axes at a few trade shows and was always impressed

Martin was IIRC at least toying with the idea, maybe they´ve gone a bit further with it, maybe they´ve dropped it ;)

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

I dont see a price on those guitars, they look pretty expensive though!

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

Upside of 2k for a "Baricoustic" IIRC, but I can´t remember how far, been a while. But the ones I tried (about half of the range) were all well worth their cash ;)

BTW: Joe used to work with Harvey Citron, they disbanded in ´83 IIRC. The Veillette-Citron axes are starting to fetch pretty prices on the vintage market

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

I don't know if this would cover what you're looking for or not:

Renaissance Guitars RS-6 Baritone

Its what you'ld call an acoustic-electric, which may not suite your needs.
They show the MSRP at around $2200., but I believe that Shoreline Music sells these for around $1600.

Still a bit pricey, but they sure are nice. ;)

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

thanks guys :)

only problem is i haven't a clue where i'd find one to play, or if anywhere even stocks strings for one.

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

Playtesting may be a, problem. Bbut as far as strings go, you can use any standard set or custom guages that you prefer (I´m assuming you´re worried about the length , which is always more than ample) ;)

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

Nah its not length, its the fact that one guitar says its strung 14-70

i dont know where to get that kinda guage

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

well i have played a yamaha drop 6, which is strun (i think) 13-68. that tension is pretty much perfect for B-B

im thinking 14-70 will be perfect for B-B on an acoustic, and im worried a normal set of 13's or 14's wont have enough tension on the bass strings

Re: Does anyone make a Baritone acoustic?

thanks but one problem:

International Express Mail - US$35.00 For Any Size Order

i'll check out the labella site and find if they have any uk distributers.

dont wanna end up saving up for the axe, getting it, and as soon as i need strings they're gonna cost me more than your average bass strings to get them :smack:

Ehm, you DO understand that "Any Size Order" means also if you order say 10 sets or 2 dozen, right??? Nobody says you only have to order only one pack, I´d just grab a few dozen packs of my favorite string to go along ;)

I just ordered about a moionth ago, so I´m set right now. Otherwise I´d have just offered for you to tag along on the next order (then again , I can still offer it ;)). ;)
