Does EMG make the only "metal" P90?

I saw dimarzio has the super distortion, but its too bassy. What else is there, besides EMG?

Well, an interesting question. You mean P-90 sized metal pups. I'd say a minibucker can do metal. So yes - duncan makes one.

That said, I also say the Duncan SP-3 90 Custom can do metal. I say that because I've been doing metal on it through the recto setting lately. That's a REAL p-90.

Good call, fowl2338. The L-90s are pretty wild. Buck Dharma of Blue Öyster Cult did some pretty cool stuff live with them.

i think phat cats, especially with the right magnets, are the best p-90s for metal. mostly because of the metal cover which blocks out a bit more hum than their plastic counterparts.

We can do the Blackouts in the P90 cover through the Custom Shop. We've done them before. We also put any humbucker wind in there, by shaving the bobbins a little.

Dimarzio has other ones like the Tone Zone P-90 and DLX Plus.

If you want the nastiest P90 tone out there the custom delivers in spades. That said, in a high gain context you'll want to kill the signal at a gig after a song if noise bothers you.

Bareknuckle do the 'Pig-90' which is a mashup of their Warpig humbucker and 1 of their standard P90s.

I've heard metal done on a standard P90 before and it was more than adequate tbh. Guess it depends what you're looking for
