Eh...does not have a very developed OCD streak for such things....
Sometimes I just put the head on the floor next to the cab

Any reason for that? I've never had an issue putting my heads on my cabs.

Because three or four feet off the ground, on top of a loud and vibrating box that is often on wheels, with the amp head making it top heavy, on a crowded and active stage in a dark place full of drunk and high people (most of them strangers) is a terrible place to put an amplifier, especially a tube one. (Was that sentence long and confusing enough?) I'd rather put my amp head on the floor than on top of a cabinet.

I hate seeing a head that's wider than the cabinet. Not only does it look wrong, it's also likely to be less stable. The feet on the head are probably closer to the edges of the cab (if they even fit), and there's part of the head hanging out over the cabinet, more likely to get bumped into and knocked off.
There's a lot to be said for not playing with the head on top of the cabinet. Sure the aesthetics and convenience are nice, but there's the risk of damage, and also the vibration. It's probably not the best idea to subject hot tubes and solder joints to extended, repetitive mechanical oscillations.
But I still totally do it when I'm not at home.

my head is too long when I turn the 212 cab on its side. I am thinking about taking the feet off the head to make it more stable. its nice having the head elevated from the floor for tone and volume adjustments.
but ya the floor is best in many situations since I dont want it hitting the ground.

If you're any good at playing, people should be paying attention to you, not the fact that your amp head is an inch and a half wider than your speaker box.

Yes, I wish my 2x12 was 2 inches wider for that very reason... it's perfect for both my Oranges, my 2203 (and obviously my killer ant) but my rectoverb is a bit too wide. It's not like I can't deal with it and it's not a big deal but had I known that I would be getting a rectoverb when I commissionned the build, I would've ordered it 2'' wider.

I dont care what people think it bothers me. My old bass player was killer with a great tone. His Sunn Coliseum 300 was wider than his SVT and it drove me crazy. I never said anything but it drove me nuts.
