Does the 35th Ann. JB/Jazz sound better than the regular models?

I recall there being some differences with the 35th Ann. such as roughcast magnet, and maybe that's the only difference as far as tone goes?

Has anyone bought the 35th Ann. JB/Jazz and found it to be sweeter than the regular production models? Just curious. I know the legs are longer, and it's got butyrate bobbins I think.

Butyrate and rough cast but still fully charged magnets. I never got a set when they were out, but I liked them a lot. It was a nice celebration of 35 years with subtle differences. The Antiquity JB/Jazz are even more sonically different from a new one since the magnets are aged/degaussed. But yes of course I could hear a difference between the 35th and the standard new production JB.

My experience is that it is a bit more smooth without losing any valuable texture. The highs and bass ever so artfully and slightly dampened allowing the 35th Anny JB to become more mid focused (I haven't tried the Jazz).

All of that is due to the roughcast A5 versus the polished A5 in the production model... the magnetic field is different so the sound is slightly altered. Don't forget about the maple spacer like the Seth and '59.

The pickup came in standard spacing only and has one conductor cable with a braided shield... no coil splitting with the 35th Anniversary JB/Jazz set.

Great pickups and a really genius idea.

Thanks for the answers. I like the effect of roughcast or unoriented roughcast magnets, but have only tried them in Customs.

I saw a set of 35th Ann. JB/Jazz on Craigslist for a good price, so I needed to know the deal with them.

I put the Antiquity set in my Telegib, and I don't think I will go back to the production models. I have tried the 35th version
