Does the CC have a vintage vibe?

I was thinking about plunking one in my SG bridge. I've heard it's pretty warm and it's a higher output than the '59, but will I lose the PAF/vintage tone with it?
I would either pair it with my current '59 neck or a PGn neck that I have lying around.

I don't think it does,though it's great in an SG....It's got more mids,higher output,and it's not as articulate as a 59,Seth,Antiquity,ballsy and smoother....Great pickup,but I prefer it in a strat and not a LP/SG..It's not vintage output and not vintage sounding in the mids..

Seriously, using my CC guitars, I can play anything recorded with a vintage paf (like Cream or Truth era Jeff Beck or Led Zep) and make it sound vintage enough to suit me.

Maybe it's just me? I felt the CC had more mids and more output but it lacks the clarity of a 59 or that type of wind..I'd say it's "hyper vintage"..:smack:

I love the CC in my LP. Sounds killer, especially through my Marshall. Links in sig if you wanna hear it. Clips are subjective to lots of things but you'll get a general idea of it anyway. It WILL sound different in a SG.

I'm actually getting a CC soon for my SG standard, I'll be sure to let you know how it goes once I get it. You need a trembucker spaced for the bridge right?

Nope. Not on a Gibby. Just on Fenders and Floyd equipped guitars due to the wider spacing. Standard spacing otherwise.

I think it can do vintage just fine. To me it's not as high output as it should be, given it's rating. Click on my soundclips and listen to my cover of "All Right Now". No vocals, but it's just the CC for rythym and lead in a double fat strat. Pretty vintage in my book.

i agree with Jeff, i dont think it sounds very high output.....its vintage sounding to me, just more compressed and not as twangy and open as other PAF pickups.....and it has much more mids

I've been saying this same thing for months. It's classified as hot but it doesn't behave that way. Gotta love the CC in a Strat. :fing2: I sure do.

The guitar I have my CC in is an all maple neck thru guitar with a floating Wilkinson and an ebony fingerboard. On its own, that axe is nothing but highs and lows.

The CC's mids fill in the sound. Back to back, it doesn't sound very vintage compared to my LP with Pearly Gates, but on its own through a Marshally amp, it does a good job of ZZ Top, AC/DC, Van Halen, and even some Zep. Heck, it even has some twang to it.

I think in a LP it might be too much, but in a thinner or bright guitar, it does the vintage thing quite nicely.

I think it has a vintage vibe. It has quite a bit of output compared to my Seth Lover, but there are similarities also. The Seth Lover is definitely more open and twangy.
I like them both.

Are you serious? I've been told that on Gibson SGs from 1990 and newer they need f-spaced bridge pickups and standards in the neck. I measured mine and the spacing on the stock bridge pickup is just over 2" from the center of the high e to the center of the low e, and the neck pickup is around 1.9".

My mindset on the CC is this/The slight mid-spike it has doesn't give it it's vintage vibe..It just doesn't have the highend jangle,chime of a 59 and it's definately not as note articulate as a 59....I stopped using it in my LP for these reasons,but it had a great warm,smooth clean tone with alot of fullness that I Loved.It just wasn't bright enough...In a strat's bridge position however,this pickup is very hard to beat!

I've always followed the old rule: Fender style gets trembuckers and Gibson style gets standard. If it does measure a little over 2", and you want the poles to line up, then go with the trembucker. I didn't know that the SG's spacing was different. :13:

It's been covered on the forum several times...some time around 95 or so Gibson changed standard production (non CS, Historic, etc) solid body guitars to a slightly wider spacing...both normal and tremspacing will work on those guitars...

Alot of guys get all caught up in the string/pole spacings....It's better and looks alot better when things line up perfectly,but it's not a really big deal and for me,close enough for Rock N Roll...:laugh2:

The CC is my favorite bridge pup. Mostly because I detest IcePick Highs. It matches up great with an A2P in the neck.

Exactly Scott....I hate ice pick in the forehead tone...I prefer smoother,rounder,and warmer in the bridge,but with a nice high end.
