Does the Level slider on the GE-7 or MXR 10-Band cut volume as well as boost it? The reason I ask is that my g/f plays both Fiddle and Viola in our band, but her pickups have drastically different output levels, enough so that she has to turn down the volume on her amp when switching to the Viola. It also has a much different tone and doesn't sound very good when played at the EQ settings for the Fiddle. We'd like to have an EQ pedal set up for her Viola, and it would be lovely if we could turn down the volume at the same time.

On the GE 7, yes. The middle setting is no cut or boost.

That said, unless you mod the GE7, it can be very noisy. I modded mine with a monte allums mod, and it's a bajillion times better. far less noise, and much more clarity.

Good, that's how I figured it would work.

I've heard that about the GE-7. They are a lot cheaper than the 10-band though.

true. The Monte Allums mod is also pretty cheap. Together they make the GE7 a really nice sounding, highly usable EQ.

I've had the GE-7 twice. Unloaded it both times. Now I have two MXR KFK models, and I'll keep them forever.

I just found a Dano Fish and Chips on craigslist for $15, already picked it up. It has a level slider, so it should give us an idea of this set up will work. If it works out, but sounds bad, I'm only out $15 and can start looking for an MXR or a GE-7.

why bothering with ge-7 and mod and whatnot...I bought used as-new condition 10 band for 60$ here or TGP, don't remember. It has input and output gain sliders and more flexibility with 10 bands rather than 7. And you don't have to mod it to make it usable

Time to invest in a small analogue mixer.

By giving each instrument its own input channel, it is possible to set the gain trim and equalisation per instrument. With their signal levels corrected and balanced, the output signal can be sent to the amplifier or public address system with no need for further adjustment.

For live performance, a Mute button would help enormously.

I hadn't thought of that solution. I'm looking at them now, but I'm not seeing anything that looks like it has a mute button on it, and that would be essential since both instruments have a tendency to feedback when left untouched.
