Does this exist- Bass pickup question

I've got a build that I'm planning some fiber optic work. I've don't fretboards already but this time I wanna run fiber optics to light the pickup cavity.

Here's my question. Does a bass pickup exist that has pole pieces are hollow?

I would to run fibers to each pole, from the bottom of the pickup.

Anyone? Basically a hole the whole way through each pole piece.

I searched for "pickup hollow pole pieces" and ended up looking at outfits for pole dancing. Sorry I got distracted. What was the question?

Okay, I hope this doesn't sound stupid, but I think there's a problem there. You have a pickup, that picks up all the magnet stuff, sound, ect. If you were running light through the pickup, wouldn't that be like running lights/60 cycle hum directly to the pickup? Wouldn't the sound be nothing but white noise? You know what happens when you put a pickup near fluorescent lighting? Wouldn't it be like that but 100 times worse?

Not really. There's not an actual light running through the pickup. It's just the fibers, the actual LED would reside in a shielded cavity. That's the beauty of fiber optics. A single LED powers all the fibers.

Besides that, 60Hz hum is caused by the frequency of the AC power system coming to our outlets. I imagine the LEDs in this setup would be powered by batteries, which are DC.

Yeah, a single 9v battery powers all the optics.

I think you could easily make some. Lets say you want a J bass setup. Drill out the pole pieces to accommodate the size of the fiber and then you can light that bass up like the Fourth of July, or a redneck wedding, which ever you prefer. You just have to make sure that the fibers will stay there. Probably through some kind of _razy _lue (first letters omitted for legal reasons).

This same question was posed on TalkBass. Someone there mentioned Delano pickups as a possible means to get the effect. (I know the OP knows about this, I post it for the benefit of others in this thread who might be interested.)

Yeah, that was me, too. Wasn't really sure who to ask, or even what to ask when the idea hit me. Covered all my (cough) basses. Huh.
