Idiotic of Gibson. If anything, I've seen Explorers getting more popular thanks to our Swedish friend Skwisgaar Skwigelf.

Re: Does This Upset Anyone Else? Explorer Fans, UNITE!

It doesn't bother me. I already own one Explorer, and they can be found on the used market for a dime a dozen if I ever want another one. No biggie.

That's what I think. As a guy who only buys used Gibsons, I couldn't care less what they offer every year. It only makes the affordable used ones go up in value when they stop making something.

I came so close to pulling the trigger on a Korina Explorer like Jolly owns the other day. Someone grabbed it quickly.

The only people who care about NEW Gibsons are people who have plenty of money and no time to look for used gems. There will never be a shortage of nice Gibsons if you have money and are looking to buy.

I like explorers a lot...but I am big time against the Gibson company these days, and I truly wouldn't care if Gibson discontinued everything. I'm not gonna buy a new Gibson anything. At this particular point in their history, they are a terrible company. They treat their employees like crap. They break environmental laws and ethics codes by illegally buying wood from protected national forests at a time of civil war. They cheat on their taxes and duties and then try to get people all mad at the government for doing something about it. They send their quality down the tubes, while simultaneously jacking up their prices to unfathomable levels. They use their "Made in the U.S.A." and "legendary" status as selling points, yet they don't live up to the meaning of those terms. Be glad that you can only get them used; they will be better quality and cheaper, and you won't be giving money to the company itself.
I agree with all this but Henry J brought them back from bankruptcy...which is pretty impressive! I mean everyone talked about the mighty les Paul but no one could buy them. Now you can get an LP everywhere, it's the reason I won't buy one now they are too common and the market is flat. Hey everyone stop buying Gibson and become Strat Lovers again it's that time in the zeitgeist!

I'm no stranger to buying used (in fact, only one of my guitars was bought retail), but when I'm getting in the over $750 range, something in me becomes apprehensive. Admittedly I haven't looked long, but I don't tend to find many Gibsons for more than 25% less while used. Limited experience there though.

Every model of Explorer is still on their website. They just released the M4 too. I don't know, unless they haven't updated the site.

Maybe they stopped production for awhile because they're sitting on a warehouse full of them?

Theres probably also lots sitting on dealer shelves... Which now a bunch of forumites will run out and buy "CAUSE THEY ARE BEING DISCONTINUED!" then they will sit and let the demand build up for a couple years... Then BAM bring it back out again for another sales rush. Gibson's marketing is smarter than lots of people here realize.

they probably stopped makeing them because the dumb kids are buying imports thinking its just as good but its just not

I believe Edgecrusher is probably right. It will probably return sooner or later. Just bums me out that it's happening.

I bought my Explorer new cuz it was a limited run with mirror pickguard and truss cover. I got a really good deal on it from a dealer online. Incidently, that dealer stopped selling gibsons shortly after when they started making the high inventory demands and such..
