If so what is the best seymour duncan for a basswood body guitar?
For metal:> The tone wizard says tb-6. Is the wizard correct?

Does wood matter? In a word, hell yes

Lots of people are gonna chime in, but I'm gonna say the Distortion is good for what you want. Is it an Ibanez with a floating trem?

I've had great luck with Ibanez RG guitars paired with Distortions, JBs, Invaders, Custom, Full Shred, and the Original Parallel Axis Trembucker.

If the guitar is a bit dark the Full Shred will help brighten it up. The JB might not be bad either. Basswood is a very versatile wood because it is pretty neutral and pickups can really refine the sound of the guitar.

yes,Ibanez rg370dx.also an rg320dx both floating trems.I was thinking of the tb-4 and sh-2 for the 320.Any thoughts on this set up?

I popped a Distortion bridge and Jazz neck in a basswood Ibanez and man did it really improve the tone A LOT!

Does wood affect tone, yes but in my humble luthier opinion it's NOT the
be all, end all when it comes to the final tone. Electronics (pickups) and the
bridge play a bigger part in the tone than the wood!

Yes, the DD and a Jazz is a great rock/metal combo, regardless of the wood.

ahh thanks frehley! and to all. I will go with the tb-6 and sh-2 for the 370. Any ideas for the middle pup 370 is h/s/h.?

Wood matters... I have never changed pickups in a basswood guitar... the only one I have played was an RG. Ibanez pickups are bad for anything.

Yes, if you use lower output pickups. Lower output pickups really let you hear the tone of the wood in your guitar. If you use high output pickups, you really just hear the pickup. Low output = playing the wood, High output = playing the pickup.

Search the web for guitar body/wood resonance. I saw several articles involving physics research that demonstrated the differences in wood type and body shape. The Explorer/V types sound different. The woods they experimented with (tho not specifically decribed enough) fit the typical stereo types.

Before the floyd rose type tremelos came out, Basswood was rarely mentioned. It is just about the lightest/softest guitar body wood used and adds warth and resonance that the FR removes. Lighter thinner bodies resonate more and at lower frequencies. Check out the Warmouth site. They have lots of good info, and notice that they list the weight/density of each body and that they vary quite a lot even for the same wood type.

Do bodies that weigh the same but are made of different wood sound...?
