I was originally going to use the Flathead Tele that guy from Slipknot uses...but then I realized it had humbuckers, so I had to come up with something.

Re: Does your Guitar influence your style?

Of course the sound and feel of different guitars influence you. Anyone who says otherwise either doesn't understand human nature or is lying.

But you don't even have to talk different guitars to illustrate this point. Do you play the same kind of stuff on the neck pu as on the bridge? What about the middle position or the notch positions on a Strat? The answer is obvious.

That said, it IS a good idea to try a type of music that folks wouldn't expect from a certain type of guitar -- the fact that it is so different will give you a different take, a fresh angle on the whole musical genre you're playing at that moment.

Plus, some guitars will surprise you. I can't tell you how many times I've fooled people into thinking I was playing an archtop or at least a semi-hollow by thumbing abstract jazz chords on my Strat. "How did you get that fat tone?" It's an MIM 50's Reissue that sounds very sweet and warm on the neck pu. All it needs is a refret with some big-ass tall frets (6000's or 6100's) and it will be a REAL Fender "Jazzmaster". (The big frets won't hurt the blues angle either...)

Between Electric and Acoustic, yes I would say it does influence my style. Between electrics, hardly. I grab a strat, and play my usual style. I grab an LP, I play my usual style. Samething goes with all of the other un-mentioned guitars. However, I do like hearing the difference tone-wise.

Re: Does your Guitar influence your style?

It is no, in my case... I have several different style guitars, and prefer my Strat over each of the others. Now, I definitly play on different pups settings, but, I still love my Maple strat with stock SC's in the neck/middle and a Lil 59 in the bridge... From SRV to Seether, from Dylan to Disturbed, and everything in between, I reach for the Strat. With the hours I logged on the Strat, it seems to be an extension of me rather than an instrument!

It would be soooo cool if I picked up a Carvin or Steinberg and play like Allan Holdsworth...but he played his awesome stuff on a Strat too...strange!
