Don't be a bich

Re: Don't be a bich

I always preferred the feel of a Kahler to a Floyd.

I don't know about Tone suck. Tone difference - sure...

Re: Don't be a bich

I hate to say it, but I wouldn't Kahler it - only because the wood/walnut is too nice to cover any of it up. Other than that, two things to say about BC Rich/The Bich - One, they all are set up *really* well in recent days, almost bought a Mockingbird with similar walnut sandwich design but picked up my slime green Soloist instead.

Two, back in college a girl in the room next to me was a stereotypically 'metal' asian freshman (is that a sentence that can occur in 2019 ?) and when I asked what sort of guitar she had I still remember her giggling and saying "A Bich!" I gave myself a lot of excuses *not* to get laid in college for some reason, and I think my excuse with her was that from just about day one of living in the dorms I knew how irritating and grating her sex noises were. Anyway if this thread has a point, it's me wondering whether an actual Bich was ever made that would have been affordable to a sort of sub-par, poseur college freshman; I guess the Platinum series would do.

Re: Don't be a bich

I don't know if there was a price difference back in the 80s, but these days a Kahler costs a lot more than a Floyd.

If someone is installing a Kahler and expecting it to sound like a Floyd, they're going to be disappointed because Kahlers don't sound like Floyds. A Kahler with steel cam & rollers comes closest, but they're still not the same. The only Kahler I currently own is on my Charvel Model 4, and it has a brass cam & rollers. It doesn't sound like a Floyd and I like that; it sounds much closer to my tune-o-matic / stoptail guitars. I'm seriously GAS'ing for an Explorer with a Kahler, and I've thought about building one of those Precision Kits.

I'm not taking sides in Kahler vs. Floyd, but I will accept the "invitation" to show my '79 Explorer.

Re: Don't be a bich

I think it's interesting about the adjustability features of the kahler versus the floyd. I notice the later model kahlers have a setscrew to lock down the pivoting cam to make it a hardtail and They just seem like a less PINTA to set up than the floyd rose. Also that you can get a retrofit les paul style for that NJ Bich guitar provided the stud dimensions are correct.

Not a real tremolo user, but just an interested observer.

Re: Don't be a bich

Floyds are popular for one reason, and one reason only. Van Halen.

I have an SSS strat with a floyd . . . that has never played a Van Halen tune. I much prefer Floyds to standard strat trems because they're just better engineered for the job.

Re: Don't be a bich

First of all.. Congrats Aceman on your new axe! How ya liking the neck thru? Of all the guits I burned thru a few years ago when I was rolling them so much, I think Ive only had one or two neck thrus. And, AWESOME price on it! Im curious to see what you end up with for pups. Im not real experienced with Dimarzios. The Super D is fun, but if you go that route, get the Dual Sound so u can split.. Ive been really curious to try a Crunch Lab/Liquifier as there was so much positive hype around them when they came out.

Mincer, IIRC, the 80's NJ series were somewhat turds, BUT... Im sure the first few years of them were probably darn good. (they were made in Japan. NJ standing for Nagoya Japan) However, in the late 80's Class Axe bought the co and thats when most of the guitars turned to turds. As with most of the guitar companies back in that era. People viewed the Japanese guitars as inferior (Charvel Model series, Kramer Focus models) though most were pretty awesome!!! Its late 80s when the companies started going to other countries to make guitars is when they went to crap as those factories werent developed at the time.

Don P, Great Benatar vid! I remember Spyder playing alot of BC Riches back in the day!!

Wmachine, Awesome Explorer!!

Ive always wanted a Warlock and tho Im not big on signature guitars, Id really LOVE to have a Morice model.. Again, not big on Sig models, but the black widow theme is cool and I love the features of it. Kahler, upgraded pups etc
