What srike me is What a guitar of that caliber(if real) is doing on Ebay.
My thinking exactly. From his description of some of the details, he's knows the lingo, and would know what he had. If I wanted to sell an original 59 lp, I would have it appraised by George Gruhn, or someone, get a certificate of authenticity, document every nook and cranny of the thing, and let a reputable dealer sell in on consignment. I really doubt we'll be seeing any of these on ebay any more than we'd find one that had been sitting in some Grandma'a closet for 50 years.
As far as the Les Paul Model on the headstock, if I remember right, some repaired headstocks were like that. Doesn't Jimmy Page have one like that, I'm not sure, and I think Paul Kossoff had a repaired headstock that just had "Gibson" on it, in that gold / yellow paint to boot.
