His description just seems to be a big disclaimer..."it APPEARS to be a '59 burst"...etc.

The only thing anyone could ever hold him to is the auction title itself where it says the word "Gibson". You would hope that whoever is bidding on that thing would also have seen photos of the sections in question like the cavities and such. Anyone willing to spend that kind of money on a collectable guitar would probably be rolling in it anyway!

My thinking exactly. From his description of some of the details, he's knows the lingo, and would know what he had. If I wanted to sell an original 59 lp, I would have it appraised by George Gruhn, or someone, get a certificate of authenticity, document every nook and cranny of the thing, and let a reputable dealer sell in on consignment. I really doubt we'll be seeing any of these on ebay any more than we'd find one that had been sitting in some Grandma'a closet for 50 years.

As far as the Les Paul Model on the headstock, if I remember right, some repaired headstocks were like that. Doesn't Jimmy Page have one like that, I'm not sure, and I think Paul Kossoff had a repaired headstock that just had "Gibson" on it, in that gold / yellow paint to boot.

Haha well if Jimmy Page had one then that would add even more credence to the idea that this is just a Jimmy Page model made by a copy company.

The sob story is the first flag - designed to draw attention away from the facts. Then the "appears" - if he knows that much about it he knows it's mega valuable, or could find out in a couple of questions. Also looks generally beat to hell, but only in "one" way. Like the oxidation, but no dings or scrapes. Or the eveness of the flat finish.

Still, a tastey aged Paul. I'll go with LPF dudes - psycho as they can be, they have skills.

Headstock is all wrong. Compare a real LP headstock to this and you see the the top of a real LP has more curves.

Yeah, it's just as well he edited out the part about his brother also being his nephew and his grandpa, or people might have started to talk.

I know he mentioned brother-in-law earlier and by deduction you'd expect this person to the be the in-law one, but it sounds so wierd especially since his brother in Mexico with his calamity. :eek13:

I'd bet you could tell pretty quick by playing it.

I'm far from an expert on Les Pauls, especially the old ones, but I will say this. I've looked through "The Beauty of the Burst," and I don't remember any that reliced that way. Of course, like was said, somebody might have been extra abusive.
