Don't buy from USACG.

Here's how I lost $98 and a load of my time to them.

The beginning of May 2017 I ordered a strat body, one piece mahogany, with a Kahler bridge rout.

I got it beginning of august and realized from doing some measurements that bridge rout was in the wrong place. So I e-mailed them, and after a bit of back and forth (took 2 and a half months of them looking at my pictures/video before...) they asked me to construct the guitar and see if it would intonate. It would not, so they said to send it back.

The return shipping cost $87.50 from the United Kingdom. The return & cancellation policy on their website states that "If the item is not what we said it was, is damaged or needs additional work, we will refund, repair or replace at our expense, including shipping." INCLUDING SHIPPING.

They got it late October 25th, 2017. I then heard pretty much nothing other than "we haven't forgot about you" for the next 3 months!!! I repeatedly asked if they even had the wood in stock, how long it would take to make, when it would be shipping, and got no answer. I had repeatedly asked for my return shipping costs to be reimbursed, but that request was ignored too.

Finally, February 4th 2018, I told them to just refund me. By this point, I'd heard nothing from them since 14th November, despite e-mailing for an update.

As soon as I ask for a refund, I start getting prompt replies again. All completely ignoring my request for a refund and assuring me that they will start making the replacement body "asap". Apparently the CNC program had been wrong since 2011. I didn't want to deal with them anymore, so demanded a refund.

Today I got the refund, but I am still owed money. I paid $315 for the body originally. I have been refunded only $305. I have not been refunded any of my shipping costs to return the faulty item.

I have contacted them since and been told "that's all the company was willing to refund" and that they can't reimburse my return shipping costs... despite what their policy says... because they didn't charge me those fees. How else was I supposed to return the item?

They didn't even refund me the correct amount even if you disregard the return shipping! ($10 short)

So in short, this has been going on for 10 months, I have sent 19 e-mails and have called them several times, and I am out of pocket $98.

I have all the e-mails, if anyone wants to see them. Thought it was too much to post here. The service is terrible and their morals are low. AVOID.

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

The bridge rout was too close to the neck, by about 1/4". Too far to be compensated by adjusting the saddles on the bridge.

I will probably have to do a chargeback on the payment card I used to get the rest of my money. What a drag.

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

Yeah you probably misunderstood the customs and intricacies of American citizens

We generally take the time , about two weeks before thanksgiving, off
To prepare for the Feast of the Holidays
Which includes a drunken stupor the lasts thru New Years day ,
And sometimes the hangover brushes right on into February

Chill, when we wake up, we will do your little task ,
Have some tea

Naw Sirius. That sux
If you were a in country dude , a call to the Better Business Bureau, would give you satisfaction
But seldom recovers money

A lawyer would soak up more money than what's owed
But you could also ask for legal fees and court costs
But again, this would only pay in country
And quite possibly in state, as state laws vary in this regard

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

VISA offer some protection, we have consumer laws over here that apply even to foreign companies (since the banks/cards are international)... so I'll talk to the bank and they'll probably refund me the money. They won't even talk to USACG, it'll all be done between my bank and theirs.

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

I heard that USACG had superb customer service. maybe this is just a one-off?? or has somebody else had trouble with customer service??? I would like to know, because i'm planning to order from them.

The OP is located in the UK which probably adds to the complication a bit.

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

I am hearing that Tommy is no longer with USACG and as far as I am concerned, my business left with Tommy.

This is quite unfortunate as USACG was the best in custom options and Tommy was great to deal with.

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

Where should I buy a neck now?? These are some specs:
-25,5 inch scale
-roasted birdseye maple
-banana headstock
-floyd rose nut
-stainless steel 6100 frets
-12-16 compound radius
-square heel
-glow in the dark side dots

Maybe musikraft?? has somebody ordered there?
Warmoth isn't an option.

Why is Warmoth not an option?

Off topic, but I noticed that Warmoth and USACG are both in Puyallup WA. Did they split.?

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

I had read this a LONG time ago (I believe here in these forums in fact) that USACG was made out of ex-Warmoth employees that left to do their own thing.

I was surprised to read this, until Ayrton shed some light by saying Tommy had left.

As far as I as concerned, Tommy WAS USACG.

Warmoth isn't an option because they only offer quartersawn and plain maple on banana headstock necks.

Yeah, I've dealt with Tommy before and he was great.

But I've had a really bad experience with them this time. I ordered the body in May 2017, it's still ongoing.

Hopefully I'll get my money back but I will never be ordering with them again.

That has a lot of Carvin/Kiesel standard features

Re: Don't buy from USACG.

I tried contacting USACG on a few occasions about necks a couple of years back. After getting the initial email replied to and confirming I'd like to order in each case I heard nothing back.
