don't know what to do.

I don't even know where to begin when choosing new pickups. I really love the Slash sound and know that he uses the Alnico II Pro, but sometimes I want to be a bit heavier than that. I have a thing for the sound of Tremonti's guitar also so perhaps a pleasing middle of the two would be best. I am playing a Dean Hardtail with the push/pull coil splits and have looked at the tone wizard but all it does is JB/'59 and I don't really want that combo. What would the custom custom with the Alnico II pros do for me. Any help would be great. Also have looked at the Tremonti treble from PRS, but what would I pair it with? Please help cause I don't want to wind up with the wrong combo and have to start all over again.

Re: don't know what to do.

You'll really like the Alnico II Pro in the neck. I have one in a Hamer Studio, which is very similar to the Dean Hardtail in terms of woods and construction. It really nails Slash's sound, and it's always worked well for me no matter which guitar I've had it in.

I think you'd like the Custom 5 better than the Custom Custom for the bridge. From my experience, the CC sounds nothing like Tremonti. The CC has a ton of midrange, with pulled back bass and treble. I don't really like it because of the lack of low end. The C5 had stronger lows and highs, and pulled back mids. I don't like it in bright guitars like Strats, but in a Dean Hardtail, I think it would work well. I also like the Rio Grande BBQ. Think Angus Young and Billy Gibbons, and that'll give you an idea of how the BBQ sounds. It has a good amount of lows and mids, but the highs are a little softer, so that they sound warm and sweet instead of bright and shrill.

Well MOOM says he can get it witha 59 in the bridge, i trust his judgement on tone. Im gonna try one for 80s/90s METAL tone.

Re: don't know what to do.

If you wanna go hard, but also soft, you'd do well with one of the custom series pups. Try the C5 in your Dean, and remember... if you don't like it you can exchange it

Re: don't know what to do.

OK I have never even heard of the Rio Grande BBQ. Is this some kind of custom or what? I did talk to a guy at Guitar Center and he said the Pro II with the C5 would sound great. Perhaps I will try that combo first.

Re: don't know what to do.

OK I have decided I will go with the Alnico Pro II in the neck. Still want some opinions about the Tremonti Treble that PRS offers...has anyone used this pickup and do you think it would work well with the AP-II??

Re: don't know what to do.

Never tried the Tremonti bridge pickup, except for the one in the Tremonti SE guitar, and I'm assuming that's different from the pickup in the American model.

The Rio Grande BBQ is not a Duncan pickup, it is made by Rio Grande pickups. It has less output than the V5, more midrange, and less treble. I like it better than the C5, but I will admit that I never tried the C5 in a darker sounding guitar, so I don't know for sure how it would sound in a Dean Hardtail.
