Don't like ceramics

Re: Don't like ceramics

I say that most people with condescending views towards ceramic pickups have never heard or played a Custom. I certainly was that way for the longest time... my opinion of ceramic, like so many other players, was born of familiarity of cheap import ceramic powered pickups.

If you like a 500T, the obvious choice is to get a 500T. Alnico magnets don't necessarily mean better tone. There are plenty of alnico magnet pickups that I think sound terrible in certain guitars.

Re: Don't like ceramics

Thanks for all your answers, but I think that at least some of you didn't get the point:

I have owned several 500Ts in the past and now have a Tremonti Treble, which basically is a 500T-clone.
And I don't hate ceramics in general because they are ceramic, but the interesting thing is that of all the PUs I've tried over the years those who stayed with me for a longer period were alnico powered - with the exception of the two before mentioned PUs - and those I dropped after a relatively short time were (mostly) ceramic.

So if I could find a PU that sounds basically like a 500T but without that "ceramic component" that I don't seem to like, I should have found the ultimate PU for me.
