Dope on speakers vs. none.

If you had two of the same speaker, one with dope on the outer edge of the cone and the other speaker with no dope, what kind of tonal differance would you hear? Does one work better in certain applications? Thanks.

Re: Dope on speakers vs. none.

I'm thinking that the dope one would have a certain wah wah aspect to it.
Also the dope speaker would be a tad muffled.

Yes, it does help. Thank you very much. So if I'm reading this correctley, if an amp's distortion channel is a bit too biting and trebley a doped speaker might help to calm this down, correct.

If it's a Weber, I think you can request "lightly doped" as well. I think you might also be able to get Ted to break the speaker in a little.

Re: Dope on speakers vs. none.

in the WeberVST range, I tried :

- 10" Blue Pup no dope
- C10N (10F150) no dope
- C12N (12F150) light dope

Believe me, these arent design for heavy overdrive. Lots of buzzy/fizzy tones. I tried the 12F150 in my BFDR and it was bad. I couldnt turn the vol past 5-6 without cone cry and fart out. I never seen a speaker moving that much. Didnt do the job.

If you're playing with low power (15watts - less) or at bedroom levels, undoped speaker might be OK, but otherwise....
