Double-Barrel Switching

Hey,

On www.guitarnuts.com I found an interesting wiring modification I'd like to try. However, it seems I will lose one tone control. I was wondering if anyone knew how to rewire the modification to keep all the tone controls and all the features of the double-barrel switching.

The author initially omitted the tone control because he thought it could not fit, but it looks like there is enough room for all the pots, and I'm building my own body anyway so if I needed some extra room I could always route a larger cavity.

I can't help you with your question, but wanted to add that I did this mod and I love it. It's very intuitive, and very flexible! The only difference I did was, I used a rotary 5 way switch instead of the 2nd blade switch (and lost my tone control because I didn't want to drill any more holes). And I added a push/pull coil split for my buckers (I have H-S-H). 17 sounds, all easily dialled in.

Simple, ... run each respective tone control directly to the hot of the pup you want to control ... the B+, M+, or N+ as chosen by you and located on SW 2. If you want one control to control two pups, run a jumper wire from say N+ to M+ to control both middle and neck.

Thanks, I'm not that great with electronics yet but I'm glad there's a simple solution.

And Jester, it's good to hear the versatility of this mod, can't wait to wire it up.

Don't get excited yet, I was half asleep, and my brain malfunctioned when I wrote that ... sorry.
You can't have a control control two pups here, so you have to do it just like a strat (one control for one pup), also the series modes cause the tone controls not to function normally depending upon the placement of them.
My advice would be to stick with the master tone.
However, as a second choice ... route one control to the B+ and one to the N+ ... in series the B's tone will act as a master tone except in the out of phase setting ... there it will function like the neck tone in the series mode ... (I'll leave it to you to explore the altered function).
