Double creme question

I know the whole situation with double creme. My question is, could I go through the Custom Shop asking for "non-specific double colored bobbins under un-soldered covers" to get them?

Yes, you can actually ask for double creams. You don't have to be secretive.

They prefer it hidden, under a metal cover, but that's about it :9:

I think the idea is based on the fact that Gibson used to choose the bobbins of their covered PAFs completely in random.
SD, as always trying to stay "vintage correct" do the very same thing. Some could even get a double cream under their cover even if they didn't specify it :9:

If you want a production model pickup instead of Custom Shop model or special request, double creme under a cover is usually available as a Shop Floor Custom pickup.

My Custom/Jazz set is SFCs. SFC pickups may take a little longer to get than a true Custom Shop pickup. However, SFCs are less expensive than a true Custom Shop pickup. If this is what you want and don't have a local SD dealer who can hook you up with SFCs, I'm sure any of your bros on the forum who are SD dealers can.

The Dmz trademark specifies exposed bobbin double creams.

DC under a cover is no problem.

Custom shop orders usually start around $150 IIRC.

Shop floor customs are a $10 upcharge IIRC.

The prices may have changed but I believe thats ballpark.

Yep, just get them as a special order "shop floor custom" and they cost the same as the regular version of that pickup with a cover, which is about $20 more than the none-covered version. You'll have to remove the covers yourself though, that's the catch - they have to ship with covers on. I order them all the time, in fact I have a double cream SH5/PG1 set on order right now.

I've always wanted to order a set with a duncan logo on one of the bobbins under the cover, just so when some dipstick sees the double creme he won't mistake the wonderful tone for a set of dimarzios. ;)

:haha::haha::haha::haha: Dipstick! Love it! Seems like whenever a gig is over or the band is taking a break there's always "that guy" who needs to know everything about your gear. The logo would cut out the "How do you get your PAF Pro Joevator Air Fred to sound that good" questions...maybe.

That's ridiculous.

My Les Paul has a Duncan Custom that's double creme I purchased around '84 or '85 that's stock.
