Double-Fat Strat finally finished!

...it's about time! The first "tech" who re-wired it didn't have a clue when it came to wiring the Super 5-way switch for the Big Apple Strat configuration. After 6 weeks I finally took it home "as-is". Today I took it to a Fender dealer and had them do it right while I waited.

I have a '59 Trembucker in the bridge, and a Jazz in the neck. The split coil settings are no match for the true single coils on my other Strat, but this guitar is mainly for when I want/need humbuckers. Now, I have to spend some time adjusting my amp's EQ and my pedals to match the humbuckers. The '59 does sound good through my Jeckyll & Hyde pedal and Hot Rod Deluxe, although it could be a slight bit hotter. I'm wondering if I made the wrong choice with the '59, but to be fair it's too early to tell. It did seem to be a little light on the mids, but that could probably be remedied with the amp's EQ. I'm sure that in the future I might consider swapping pups, but for now I'm just going to enjoy it!

Sorry, but I don't have a digital camera! If I can get some regular pics of it, I guess I can run them through the scanner.

BTW, the guitar is Shoreline Gold with a rosewood fretboard. The pups are white on a white pearl pickguard, with white knobs. The pickguard is actually more pearl-colored than white. The result is somewhat of a 3-Tone effect: bright white knobs and pups on top of a dark white/pearlish guard on the Shoreline Gold body. Looking at the guitar, I think that black pups and knobs would go great with the guard and body. Maybe once I'm fully satisfied with my choice of pick-ups I'll consider what type of color scheme to use.

Double-fat Strats are one of my favorites - my Predator and Patriot both being Strat-wannabe's. (Both with 59's.) Pics would be cool.

I'm surprised, however, that you thought the 59's weren't "hot" enough. Mine seem to have a considerable amount of volticity. ;)

Anyway, sounds cool.

I like Shoreline gold. I've thought about finding another American strat, so I could turn it into an H-S-H guitar. My idea is to use the brand new nickelcovered tremspaced C-5/middle Surfer w/plastic chrome cover/and nickel Jazz.
I'd like it in shoreline or silver w/orangish tortoise guard/nickelcovered pups/chrome knobs. For some reason, I really want one of those tortoise guards that's more orangey than brown, along with nickel/chrome hardware.

I was going by how much I had to turn up the gain on my Jeckyll & Hyde pedal to reach a certain distortion level. I actually get about the same amount of distortion with my single coils through the J & H set at the same level. That's not a bad thing...the '59 sounds fatter. I think the '59 should be fine. I guess it's better to have a pup that needs an extra boost from a pedal than to have one that's too hot and doesn't clean up well. I am curious about how the JB or Custom-type pups would sound in my guitar, though. My problem is that I don't play strictly one style of music, so I'm not looking for just one certain sound.
