Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

Hey there, I'm trying to fix up an oddly built double neck. The wiring at the moment is baffling me. Here's the set up:

Neck pups: OBL Single Coils
Bridges: SD Dimebuckers
3-way switches for each neck
A Volume and a Tone knob for each neck.

What I'm having problems with is getting the volume and tone knobs to operate independently. It's kind of important because there is no switch that allows you to select the neck. The volume knobs essentially are the only way to silence or turn on a particular side.

I did some searching but most of the diagrams include that switch and the vol/tone knobs change necks with the switch.

Any advice? I'm not super adept with wiring but I have help from a friend, who is kinda baffled as well.

Thanks for any help.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

It's actually not wired for the two 3ways for the pu's.
It's One 3way for the pu's, the other is for the necks.
Similar to a Gibson eds1275. Only two 3ways.
The epiphone g1275 has three 3ways.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

Include the switch to switch necks via making a new hole/using an existing one or use a push-pull pot to switch necks, follow the diagrams, and be done with it.

Not exactly correct information… http://www.gibson.com/Files/schematics/EDS-1275wiring.PDF

My double neck has one 3-way (e.g., Switchcraft Model 12120X ‘Standard Les Paul 3-way selector switch)
AND 1 double 3-way (e.g., Switchcraft Model 12015X DPDT (NC)/DPDT (NC) Right Angle switch)

See the picture below...

This is the way that Gibson wired it so that it works and you can select which neck get’s played.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

O.K., sorry I wasn't more specific. Yes the guitar DOES have two 3-way switches, I installed them myself. This is the only picture I have before I turned the project over to another builder. It was re-routed for the S-X-H setups. My last resort is to turn it over to another tech. I kind of want to get as much done between the two of us as possible. I'm thinking the push-pull option like "myaccount" was suggesting, but again, I'd like to keep the electronics separated via the vol/tone knobs, because it would make the transition from neck to neck a lot easier if I can leave both necks live if needed. The original S-S-S wiring was perfect, but somewhere along the way something changed.

Again, thanks for your help!

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

p.s. the two necks are both six-string. Left side is an ebony board with the frets pulled out and filled with maple and a ton of epoxy to make it a seamless fretless board. The right side is standard maple with a 2-point trem. Pine body.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

What you could do to have both necks on, one or the other, or both off is have 2 push-pull, each an on-off wiring for the two necks.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

That's a good idea, but I still need to find a way to connect the two volume/tone knobs to their own neck. It used to work like that but for some reason the different pickup configuration (or most likely my own error) screwed it up.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

Simple, independant volumes. Wire it like this, but just for the vol/tone controls. After that, make two push pulls on/off switches for their respective neck, and the 3 way(s) select which pickup to use.

Re: Double Neck Guitar Wiring Advice

This will most likely work but I'm going to definitely install a neck selector (i.e. push/pull). Each neck having its own 3-way pickup selector is proving to be the issue's cause. It's just funny that with three singles and a 5-way for each neck, worked before. That's what I get for being difficult I guess.

Thanks again for all your advice!
