double neck sg

I like the double neck sg gibson. when I play it though it tends to hang just horizontaly(cuz the necks are so heavy) and not at a slight upwards slant which is more comfortable to me-does anyone have any ideas on how to balance that weight out so the body will hang below the necks when they play theirs?

Re: double neck sg

Maybe try a wider strap with a rough texture on the underside, like suede, so it will grab on and not slide around on your shoulder.

It's all down to balancing the centre of gravity.

You'll note the small hole between the strap points. The TRUE centre of gravity is between that hole and the Forward Strap point, but it stuck in my stomach and hung the guitar too far to the left to play comfortably. The theory was perfect though - NO Neck dive! It will stay where you put it!

The Left and current point is both playable and comfortable, and you can wear the strap like normal. The Left point is 10" from the normal Forward strap point. this point is between the TOM Bridge and the Bridge P/up. Make sure you don't drill through the back of a p/up!

Hope this helps!

Re: double neck sg

i always take out the strap button on the button and put it up higher so that all my guitars don't dive down.

Re: double neck sg

I agree with the suede strap idea. All of my SGs had the same problem until I did that (switched to a suede strap). Now they pretty much all stay right in place. ****, I've GOT to get a 1275!

Re: double neck sg

I've got one too! I use a padded leather strap with suede on 1 side. Stays in place no problem.

Yeah,

Well it is a Korean Wolf, because GIBSON wouldn't return my e-mails/calls to the custom shop, or requests through dealers! - Very frustrating. They just didn't seem bothered. So I kept quite a few ££££ in my bank and paid a fraction for this. I then had the pickups custom wound and re-wired it myself.

I think this was the last time that they built an almost exact SG copy, because of Gibson's law suits, which is one thing I can't really argue against.

Still...

Agile's are nice and available:

I also use a leather/Suede strap, but I tend to wear Cotton shirts, and the neck weight still caused it to slip!

Re: double neck sg

wow! i almost bought it right now!

I'm telling you... Hotel California never sounded more authentic to the Live album!

Mostly I use it just so I only have to pick up one guitar. Whilst it weighs, I'm a big strong lad! It cuts off my circulation playing it sat down more than making my back ache standing up - Now it's balanced that is!

To be truthful I bust a push/pull at X'mas and haven't touched it much until I repaired it a week ago. Now it's fixed, when I pick it up it's everything to all songs!

...But 4 Humbuckers with 4 coil cutting push/pulls, 2 pickup selects, and a neck select/mix switch, 2 Volumes and 2 tone controls with Hovland Cap's will do that for tone possibilities.

If you're going to re-wire it the way I did...

I hope you know you're way around elecrtronics! When I'd finished I can honestly say another wire would have broken the bank, so to speak. Every wire routes from pickup, to controls, back to the p/up select switches, then to the neck select, then and only then to output. So there's twice the wiring in it! The Hovland caps took up all the remaining room in the control cavity.

I've had mine for ages and solved the neck heavy problen in two seconds... I put a second strap button behind the six string neck. It looks stock and the guitar hangs great. I even called Gibson about it, they talked it over and said they were going to do it on next years model... then they only did it on the import... Oh well, mine is perfect.

Nice that you being a righty could get an original! Lovely looking guitar!

One day maybe, they'll return the call of a 'Custom' client who wants a Lefty!

Re: double neck sg

You're not missing out on a Gibson. Terrible fret access. I'm sure you can find someone to custom build you something much better for the price Gibson would want for a Custom Lefty.

Probably! Not to mention I'm now Really happy with my Wolf in my Avatar. Next stop triple Neck...

No!
Joking!
Maybe a Bass/Guitar combo though!
Seriously!
