DOUBLE SCREW COIL humbucker, with metal cover, without going full custom?

Re: DOUBLE SCREW COIL humbucker, with metal cover, without going full custom?

So Matt ,
basically you are fixed for the bridge p-u : C5 or Full Shred .
For the neck p-u I am not sure that the 59b is a good idea , it could be too powerfull and muddy on bass register .
I just had an idea : you could buy a 59n and a 59b and use the two screw coils , so you would have an hybrid
( two coils stlghtly mismatched produce good results in general ) with 12 screws to fine tune .
fakin'hell man I am a genius !

A '59/'59 hybrid! Brilliant! - Genius indeed! ;)

I'm not too worried about '59b in the neck. - It's on a Strat type 25.5" guitar, and paired with the very powerful Custom5, it should balance well.
& if I really make two rows of screws, it should be very slightly lighter & brighter..
- In the old days, they didn't even have different winds for neck & bridge..

I do kinda like slightly mismatched coils though..

- What would be fun is a coil from a '59, and the other coil is an STK-S4.. - If only they would fit! ... ;)

The Demon is absolutely not dark in the neck.

Drugs, don't do 'em.

Full Shred. Replace the hex screws with filister screws.

This thread came to mind today when I was was reading the humbucker page over at CM Daugherty Pickups. Saw a twelve screw hybrid set there called Bi-Polar, one coil standard wind using PE wire, the other overwound with poly. No idea how the humbuckers sound, but his singlecoils are great so I'd imagine the quality is high.

Guess it depends on your rig and expectations. I found it objectionably dark, but I like tight/bright neck pickups. If you wanted an Air -Norton or Liquifire thing, it might be fine for you.

If you find the Jazz is too bright, then you might like it. It is darker than a jazz, '59, etc, but doesn't have that big low mid bump the '59N has.

Might also try DiMarzio Dactivator Neck, or the 2 I listed above. They aren't as mid heavy as the chart would have you believe, nor as dark.
