Doubleneck Question

Hello everyone! Thanks for having me on board here at the SD forum. I'm writing with a pup question with my Doubleneck of Asian origin.

I swapped out all 4 of the original pickups and now have new ones. In the 12 string, position I have Seymore Duncans. Volume and Tone work great when main toggle switch is in 12 string position. the pickups & pots work as they should.

In the 6 string position I also have humbucker pups. When main toggle switch is in Down position activating this set of pick ups, volume and tone also work great!

HOWEVER... When main toggle is in MIDDLE position, Volume and Tone for each neck becomes precarious and very sensitive. Almost entirely on or off. Also there is a notable loss of volume from the instrument when I switch to the middle position. Consequently, when I go from middle position (all 4 combined and on) to say 12 string neck, the transition is especially noticeable and very loud!

PIckups are wired properly, so is there somehow an out of phase happening somewhere when all 4 pickups are activated? if so, how can I correct this! is the problem somehow in the main toggle?!

community encouragement and advice are much appreciated.

Re: Doubleneck Question

Good luck. I don't remember there ever being many guys with double necks on here.

However, there have been tons of issues here that were due to junk hardware on import guitars. Maybe try putting in a new switch. I'm not usually a proponent of throwing parts at something rather than diagnosing, but that's A LOT of wire and solder joints to diagnose.

Re: Doubleneck Question

The guitar did not behave that way before you changed pickups? It sounds like the loading of two master volumes to me, but if you only swapped pickups, it would have done the same thing before you changed the pickups. Do you have a wiring diagram of how it's actually wired? Is it a Gibson type or Fender type? Or something else?

Re: Doubleneck Question

Hmm, I've never owned one, but I thought of a double neck as 2 discreet guitar systems connected with a switch....is this not how they are connected?
