DR hand made strings!?

Guys,

What do you think of DR strings? I am seriously thinking of trying these! I am losing some interest in GHS Boomers these days and feel like a change. I did use them years ago on a Peavey Wolfgang but it is difficult to rememember other than the fact that they felt great, sounded warm and felt more tought than other strings because of the added mass. I used DR 10s on my Wolfgang. I remember a guy saying they feel like Ernie Balls and sound and last like D'Addarios. My local shop owner is pushing the black beauty strings.

Does anyone know if the black beauty strings are a lot more than the tite fit strings? Does the coating effect tone like the Elixir coating? Do they last longer?

I'll have GHS Boomers 11-50 on my McCarty tonight in EB and dropped Db, then i'll try D'Addarios 11-49, and finally DR tite fit 11-50 and I'll let you all know for sure. I am trying to get away from always buying individual strings (custom sets) and going with plain straight sets and even going lighter. I noticed a jump in clarity using 10s over the past few weeks compared to my 11-54 and not a big difference in body or thickness.

Thanks guys.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I've used DR for a few years now. I use the Pure Blues 11's great sounding, playing and wearing strings, I recommend them highly. If you don't like nickel their standard sets are quite good as well.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I love the DR Pure Blues strings, they're some of the best strings I've tried. I've never tried the other types they offer though, I use pure nickel strings exclusively on all my guitars.

I should also say that my fear is that the low Db will be too floppy with a .50

What scale length? I tune down my guitars to Eb without an issue and occasionally Db for some drop tunings. The 50's don't present a problem for me but YMMV.

My McCarty is 25" and my LP is 24.75"? I am tuning to standard Eb and dropped Db. I usually have the guitar set up in dropped Db since that is what my band uses.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

Well, string slack is a personal preference I suppose. I've tuned my strat to drop Db before with a .48 and found it playable.

+1 for DR Pure Blues. I decided to try something new on my Tele this last weekend. I went from Fender bullets to the DR Pure Blues and I was completely amazed at the difference. Man, those things really brought that Tele to life. I'm thinking about trying DR strings on all my guitars now.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

The DR's I tried on my Paul felt kind of thin compared to the same guage D'Addarios I had been using. Good if you like thin strings, but I like bigger strings. They are great on y acoustic, they play like buttah! ;)

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I think they're great. Especially the Phospher Bronze acoustic guitar strings. They seem to sound deeper and last longer. I don't always use them, DAddarios are just fine too, but I do like them alot. Lew

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I love DR Tite-Fits, but maybe I'll have to try Pure Blues some day.

What's the difference between the two?

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I also use the DR Tite Fits. The local store in my hometown sold them at a very reasonable price so I tried them and loved them right away. Of course now that I live in St. Louis it seems that all the stores around here sell them at twice the price of back home. It looks like I'll start ordering strings online. But of all the strings I've tried, my favorites are the DR Tite Fits and Dean Markley Blue Steels.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I have Pure Blues 10's on all of my guitars except for my Jem, because there is no Pure Blues available in 9's. So, for that guitar I use Tite Fit 9's ...
Best strings I've encountered yet!! :D

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I´ve used dr Tite-Fit 12-52 as my main string for about 7 years now , great quality, great tone, long life :)

Re: DR hand made strings!?

I tried the Pure blues and thought they were great but a little too dark and stiff for me... hated the Tite Fits. No bottom end and very ringy in the highs. But I prefer nickel wound so there ya go.

D'addarios are my main weapons and have been for 5 years now, out of the 6 i;ve been playing

They can't be any thinner if they are the same gauage. I also have used D'Addario, GHS, and DR and I never noticed the DRs feeling thinner. That really wouldn't make sense. Just a thought.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

Someone said the tite fits have no bottom end. I don't understand how that could be the case. Maybe I'll stick with my GHS or maybe D'Addario since I like both of those. I have my McCarty set with GHS 11-50 in Eb, and I'll try D'Addario and DR tite fits and will report back.

Re: DR hand made strings!?

Well I just put a set of "black beauties" on my electric.

They're coming off already!

They feel wooly like an old string and sound lifeless.

I have a set of "long life" one's on my acoustic i'm not too impressed with either.. sounded great for about a week and a half then went dead like any other string... except at twice the price.
