DR Tite Fit or Hi Beam?

Hi guys,

Has anyone tried these strings? I have been using GHS Boomers but they die after two practices so I am trying DR strings.

Does anyone have a preference for a thick and fat tone with good feel? I have tried the Tite fit on my McCarty but I hear the Hi beams are brighter like my GHS Boomers. Not sure I want that.

Thanks!
Rich

Re: DR Tite Fit or Hi Beam?

I love DR strings...The Hi Beams are the brightest of the 3 I've tryed, folled by the Tite Fits and lastly the Pure Blues DRs...I Like the Tite Fits the most..They are pretty similar to the D'Addario EXL series in their tone, brightness etc...The Hi Beams remind me of GHS Boomers...

I'm a dedicated DR Pure Blues lover.
They don't make them in 9's, tho, so for my Jem I use Tite Fits.

Re: DR Tite Fit or Hi Beam?

I, too, jumped off the GHS bandwagon and joined the DR crowd. I'm playing Tite-Fit 11s on my Les Paul and the tone is much warmer than the GHS boomers, they are a little fatter, too, but don't seem to sacrifice clarity. Fat without the mud.

I've been using the Pure Blues on the Tele and found that they can take the edge off a piercing tele top.

All the DRs I've played are also very confortable to play. Bends seem to come a lot easier with the DRs than the GHS. Dunno if that's material, construction, or both, but they are a great set of strings.

Me too. They're expensive and I tend to just use D'Addarios most of the time. But I do think DR's sound a little better and last a little longer. I like both the DR electric guitar strings and acoustic guitar strings.

I have all of my guitars but one modded with the Buzz Feiten tuning system....I cant get DR strings to intonate on BF guitars.

Anyone else have this happen to them?

I used to love DR strings but have now gone with Ernie Ball and D'Addario strings.

Re: DR Tite Fit or Hi Beam?

I use Hi-Beams, to me, they seem to be built for the 80's metal wanker crowd :) Very cool indeed. I will give Pure Blues a swing for more classic stuff though.

Lew....You're my idol buddy...Heck we even use the same string brands!
D'Addarios and DRs are great strings...I also like GHS Nickel Rockers on one of my brighter Teles...That's really cool Lew...

Warmer and fatter with clarity is what I want even for high gain music. The GHS Boomers are becoming annoying at best. I think the DRs are made better than the others and they use better materials. I am going to check out SOS because apparently they trounce all others.

Have you tried contacting DR with this problem?

No, I just did some looking around the web and found others with the same problem....Scott Lerner among others.....and went back to my old strings.

It just sounds like something that DR would be interested in hearing. And you may score some free strings out of the deal!! :)

ou know.....I never thought of that.

I HAVE tried DR strings in the past before I discovered the BF system. Back when I was still an Ibanez guy. I did like the slinky feel that they have....overwinding is a good thing.

Maybe an e mail to DR would be worth it for information sake. I REALLY love the feel of my Ermie Ball 11-48 super slinkies and would not be overly keen on changing.

Agreed! I just replaced the Tite Fits on myt PRS McCarty with GHS Boomers and I noticed more harsh highs and they don't fel as nice. More warmth and smoother with the Tite Fit and great for 'all' styles clean to mean with clarity.
