We are finally in the same state at the same time! The amp came in last Thursday afternoon and I left for CA at 6am that morning. My bro, Keith, got the pleasure of picking up the box and getting to play it for the first time for a few days. Out of the box Keith told me that it was very icepicky/ratty at first but after a couple of days that all went away. I'm assuming that was the carbon comps setting up. When I got home Tuesday night I sent my wife over to Keith's to get my pug and my Z....she's an awesome woman. I only got to play it for about 20 minutes that first night, but wow......chime for days and cleans that will make you cry. The next day I was able to open her up. First off the tone controls don't react like other amps, they are much more interactive that what I am used to and I'm slowly figuring it out. The master volume is one of the best I've heard, the Divided by 13 being the best. There is no tonal degradation that I can hear down to a whisper. One of the biggest things that I am getting used to is the soft sag of a 5y3. I did make an improvement right off the bat by swapping out the stock 5y3 with an old big bottle Sylvania that I had. It tightened the lowend up a bit. I think that I will try a 5ar4 just to see if it tightens it up even more. Not that I'm not happy with the 5y3. Speakerwise, I started out with the 2x12 with the G12H30/Greenback....sounded beautiful. I tend to take my 1x12 99% of the time anymore so that was the next experiment. I started out with an 8ohm G12H30 which has always been my all time favorite speaker. It sounded good, but the lowend was a bit unruly. Swapped out for the 16 ohm Greenback and it came clear why the good Dr voiced it for GB's. It's a great match even in an open back cab. I've still going to hear it with Keith's Celestion Blue and the Gold. The gain is not quite as much as what I was expecting, but I also haven't tried it with 'buckers yet. That said, it truly is a guitar+chord+amp=incredible tone type. It's by far the most articulate, touch sensitive amp I've ever played....which will show your shortcomings immediatly. It will make a better player out of you! Tonally it is very voxy, but warmer. They write up the description as a cross between an AC30 and Dumble. It takes pedals very well, but I'm not sure if my beloved OCD is the right one for it. The build quality is perfect and I'll have to take some gut shots later of the chassie. It's also a very quiet amp even when cranked and the Overdose engaged. I am happy!
