Dream Guitars?

I am slowly slowly amassing parts for my dream build... A Les Paul! I hope to order one from Precision Guitar Kits very soon. I'm looking to get a customized 59' model with the tummy cut and heel scoop. I want a 60s neck, a Black Limba top, and of course a mahogany neck and body. Maybe get a Gibson overlay but I'll probably just inlay my own sig instead. I have a tonepro's bridge, a bigsby, and I've almost grabbed a Tronical Robot Tuning machine too! An expensive project but this will be the perfect guitar for me. I cant wait to finish it! Anyone else got a dream guitar they are putting together? Lets see it! Tell me about it!

Re: Dream Guitars?

I have a dream guitar I would want to buy and that's an Explorer with an ebony board. I can take care of the rest.

Re: Dream Guitars?

I made mine earlier this year. This is just the start of my dreams.

Why would you order a precision guitar kit when you are on the way to making your own awesome guitars? man seriously invest that money into making your own necks to go with those gnarly bodies you make.

Re: Dream Guitars?

I'm working on this - it's sort of a dream guitar
1 piece Bubinga body ,ibanez rg7620 neck now with zebrawood fretboard (thanks to those dumb (u^#$ at stewmac) ,roadmarker red finish - actual road marking paint ,gorilla grip ,tune-o-matic style bridge cos I have gone off trems as I experiment with different tunings ,and the piece de résistance are some custom wound pickups being made to my specs by the highly talented Adam at Artisan Guitar Electronics ,bridge 13.5k A2 mag and neck 12k with A4 mag both handwound with mis-matched coil windings

Just asking, how hard does Gibson come down on you if you copy their guitars, put the logo on the headstock and they actually notice?

What's the scale length on that neck?

Re: Dream Guitars?

I really like the Billy Gibbons aged Les Paul Pearly Gates, bit the price of these is ridiculous. I can't imagine any circumstances where I would drop that kind of coin on a guitar. It just seems nuts.

Nash guitars makes aged Les Paul's that have the same vibe for a fraction of the price. Maybe one day I'll get one of those.

Re: Dream Guitars?

I have a Squier build that is at the shop for final assembly and set up, I realized the further I got in the less I knew so I took it to a pro. But hopefully (and it's still a work in progress the "Black 'n' Blue Caster" will rise from the ashes of my guitar building ineptitude. But as far as dream guitars go I only have a few:

Epiphone Les Paul Traditional PRO
Epiphone Chameleon Les Paul Studio in teal/blue flip flop paint
Fender Big Apple Strat

And that's just 3 of my whole bucket list of guitars to get. Step #1: GET A JOB!!!

Re: Dream Guitars?

Bought it just over two years ago:

I just need to swap the electronics, install the bigsby / vibramate, replace the nut, & possibly swap tuners.

Re: Dream Guitars?

One of these:

A "non-reverse Firebird". A neigbor of mine had one when I was a little kid (back in the 70's) I'd go over and hang out when he and his buddies were rockin' out in their parents garage. I've wanted one ever since, but I got NO business buying a $4k guitar.
You can get one made in the early 2000's

for about half that, or one of the reissues from a couple years ago for a little less than that. BUt again, waaaaay out of my budget.

Re: Dream Guitars?

I have a 55 piece collection. My 19 G&L Legacys, Comanches, and S-500s--and a ASAT Deluxe--are my dream guitars. I have nine fabulous Martin acoustics, and eleven terrific Les Pauls. The Historics are by far my favorite Pauls. The three ES-335's I have are just beautiful, versatile guitars that work so well for many different kinds of music.

But still, even as blessed and as fortunate as I've been, there are some more guitars I lust for: a Warren Haynes Signature 335, a VOS '62 Reissue SG, a Martin D-45 to name just a few. I'm also looking to build at strat-bodied 12-string from Warmoth parts one of these days.

It's my only vice--I love guitars, and I don't spend my money on hot cars, fishing gear, a boat, skiing, gambling, cigarettes or bimbos. I don't travel the world--walking into my music room IS a vacation!

But the G.A.S. never ends!

Re: Dream Guitars?

Right now it's a jazz master with a humbucker neck and a telecaster bridge pickup and a strat 6-point trem, but only because my jazz master balances better than my tele.

Well, most likely they will never notice unless you try to sell it. Then you could be arrested for forgery. I really doubt Gibson would say or do much for one guitar, but if you try to build and sell multiple, they would prob serve you with a cease and desist, they go after you hard if you dont comply.

In answer to the original post, Im not trying to build a dream guitar as I have no place to do the work, but my two dream guitars to purchase are pretty simple. I want a Les Paul Class 5 with a blue flame maple top (metlking got me hooked on these) and a custom shop Charvel with a black flame maple top and a hum/single pup config. not too outlandish
I used have a dream guitar of a Hamer standard with a black flame top. But since they went oob......
That and a Freidman Brown Eye or Bogner XTC and Im fine
