Dream Pickup, Pickup Recomondations

I am looking for a bridge replacement humbucker pickup for a '79 Gibson Flying V. What I am looking for is: 1. I would like it to have a coil tap mode that had the bell like chimey highs for open chords as well as the low end bite and grit similar to the Pete Townsend Schecter and Giffin Guitar sound of the late 70's early 80's. 2. I want the humbucking mode to have similar characteristics but with a chunkier thicker low end, a bit of a mid scoop (not too extreme) and the same bell like chimey highs for open chords. I also want it to mellow and sound pretty (maybe even in a perfect world lose the mid scoop) when the volume knob on the guitar is rolled off. That may be asking a lot out of a pickup in a thin piece of mahogany but I figured if anyone one had a pup able to pull it off it was SD.

I'm not asking for much, just everything ;)

Thanks for your help in advance.

Re: Dream Pickup, Pickup Recomondations

I patterned my strat after the Pete Townsend Schecter Tele. I think the woods and the scale is more important. A swamp ash or alder body and a one piece maple. My pup i currently a Custom 8 and a Jazz, but the the regular Custom come near too.

Re: Dream Pickup, Pickup Recomondations

IMHO, the Custom is the best pickup for a V, but I've never tried one split.
