Drilling Perfect Perpendicular string-through holes

Re: Drilling Perfect Perpendicular string-through holes

You really can't beat a drill press for straight holes, the drilled wood guide is a close second. However, if you can't use either, you might look into a Ryobi cordless drill that has a bubble on the back (other makes may have them also). If you are sure- handed and drill slowly, the bubble perfectly centered will give you a darn straight drill hole. I got a five piece set with drill, saw, light and radio and one battery on sale for $60.00 US.

Interestingly, on really old Teles like my '51 was, the six holes are drilled perfectly perpendicular on a drill press but were each drilled individually so they didn't line up perfectly in a straight line. Very common in really old Teles. Lew
