You need to either block the trem or set it up to accept the thicker string guages and lower tuning.
Thicker guages will be needed no matter what, that's a given. Keep in mind that Floyd nuts accept strings up to 13-60 without needing to be modded, so keep it under that.
There's a guide in the vault on how to adjust the spring tension to compensate for different string guages and tunings, or use the search function.

Place a wooden block in the cavity so the trem cant move, and then tighten the springs down as tight as they can go. It makes it so you can only dive with the trem.

under the back plate, there are springs attached to a plate with screws. tighten the screws.

Sometimes you need to add a spring...sounds like you got em....I had to add 3 on my old Charvel Avenger.

On the other hand, I had an Ovation with a Kahler that wouldn't even take a 60, though.

Generally if you are going to tune that low you shouldn't have a floyd equipped guitar to begin with. Use hardtails for low tunings. Floyd equipped guitars you should generally set up to a specific tuning and leave it that way. Otherwise the above suggestions are the only things you can really do.

ALTERNATIVE: Hipshot makes a wonderful little unit called a "Trem-setter", which has the purpose of making absolutely sure your trem reverts to the "neutral" position.
The tremsetter can ALSO be set up with a bit of extra tension to counteract a D-tuna, and VOILÁ!!: Instant Dropped d tuning, on a FLOATING FLOYD, w/o ANY adverse side effects (aside from the changed intonation of the low e).
It will also work with a Rockinger Blackbox/ Göldo Backbox.
The difference between E and Dropped d is smapll enough that these little gadgets can easily counteract it :headbang:
*EDIT* Ups, just saw Dropped C or lower. Quick and simple: e/ Dropped D or for ex. B/ Dropped A can be done w/ a tremsetter.
But retuning the whole guitar requires y redoing of the entire setup. It´s the tradeoff for haveing the most stable and sensitive trem in the known universe. That´s why guys like me have multiple guitars
