Drop Tuning..

Sorry if this is an elementary question or one thats been asked and answered time again, but at wk and cant search. I was looking at tab for IN Pursuit of Vikings and it appears the tuning is super low on that one. BEADF#B. Would one have to go to super thick strings to make that work? Thanks

Re: Drop Tuning..

If you plan on doing it on a 25.5 scale I would personally go for like 70 gauge for the low B. I'm playing a 25.5 scale guitar tuned to C with a Heavy Core 60 gauge on the low C, and it's perfect for me.

Re: Drop Tuning..

If you keep thin strings on there, they will be slack and thus play slowly.
To keep the fast attack, you need thicker strings.

In drop B, People get by with as light as 54, or as heavy as you'd like to go.

Re: Drop Tuning..

Check out Circle K Strings. They're amazing, I use them on my 8 string (which is in F Standard). Also I will admit the Heavycore strings Dunlop has aren't that bad. I used a 56 for drop B for years on a 25.5 and it worked pretty well.

Re: Drop Tuning..

Thanks for the info! Im sure nut modding and truss adjust will be in store if I set up a guit with fatties like that..

Or could do a floyd axe to avoid nut mod. Just have to add springs
