Drum Programming --- My First Try

Re: Drum Programming --- My First Try

Good first go. I'd say ease up on the snare fills, they sound programmed. Imo no two fills should be the same sounding and that's what makes drums so difficult to program - the nuances in a real performance.

Thanks for the advice!

With what I'm using (Hotstepper, hence the title of the song, its freeware), I think it's going to sound electronic no matter what, which is actually kind of fun!

I only programmed 16 measures and then I just repeated it --- writing these sequences is tougher than I thought!

Re: Drum Programming --- My First Try

In the snare fills, try varying the attack velocity of each snare hit (if that program is capable of that). Small changes will make a big difference, and make it sound much less electronic.

Thanks --- another great tip

I actually like how electronic it sounds --- I'm not kidding myself, unless I drop the several hundred bucks for DFHS or a similar badass drum program, any drum sequences are going to sound fake

I'd rather it be blatantly electronic than trying to sound natural and not pulling it off, you know? Who's with me?

I'm looking forward to messing with the program, (which is $0, simple to use, I recommend it after trying several crappier freeware sequencers) and fiuring out what kind of sounds I can get out of it

Who knows, maybe I could get it to sound natural!

Thanks again for the advice!
